Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost, Global Education, and in consultation as needed with the Vice Provost and Dean, Global Affairs, the Executive Director ensures Global Learning Hub (GLH) alignment with and leadership of cutting edge, inclusive global education practice, providing vision, administrative leadership and coordination with other Global Affairs and campus units. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead GLH strategy development, budget activities (that include but are not limited to planning, evaluation and monitoring) and assessment, and provide high level GLH emergency management oversight).
  • Oversee day to day activity.
  • Engage with Global Affairs senior leadership planning, presentation, development and evaluation activities.
  • Provide staff leadership and programmatic oversight, supervising directors of key functional areas and the administrative systems team, facilitating overall staff professional development and community-building, and serving as primary GLH Human Resources interface,
  • Represent, influence and connect GLH (within Global Affairs and with related UCD unit leaders, UCEAP leadership, and the global education field).

The GLH includes four primary units. Global Study includes operations of UC Davis faculty-led study abroad and internships and local UCEAP coordination, amongst other programs. Global and Intercultural Programs increases student participation in global learning experiential programming with a significant on-campus and/or online dimension. Student Services facilitates student reflection, planning and documentation of global learning; handles program enrollment; facilitates grant-making; and co-leads key outreach and reflection focused signature events. Administrative Systems designs and executes all database activity in support of program enrollment, operations and stewardship, and assessment/evaluation and develops/manages student grant programs. In addition, the ED collaborates with the Faculty Director of Academic Programs, who oversees credit-bearing programs and supports faculty infusion of global learning into academic curricula.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Social Sciences or similar field and minimum of 7 years international education management experience, preferably in a university context, demonstrating increasing levels of scope and/or responsibility, including cutting edge knowledge of global education broadly and significant experience with institutional-based or faculty-led study abroad programming; extensive knowledge of institutional policies, risk management, intercultural and global earning concepts and principles of good practice, demonstrated capacity and commitment to foster an organizational culture and programming that equitably serve a diverse staff, faculty and student population.
  • High level leadership experience in areas of administrative resource management, including human resources, budget and finance, technology, facilities planning and administration, policy development and organizational problem solving, risk management.
  • Experience setting organizational goals and objectives; developing and tracking quantifiable measurements; motivating, mentoring and managing diverse and committed teams; prioritizing workload to meet strict deadlines and requirements; and representing the institution in public settings, through media interviews, presentations, and/or in writing.
  • Analytical skills to research and utilize data to problem solve, make recommendations, and to present data orally and in writing to pursue courses of action.
  • Demonstrated skills to represent the Global Learning Hub, Global Affairs and UC Davis in public settings, through media interviews, presentations, and/or in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing a long-term vision for global and/or intercultural education in higher education.
  • Experience living, studying and/or working in a country other than your own.
  • Experience with a wide variety of countries, cultures and educational systems and familiarity with international political, social and cultural issues as they pertain to international partnership and exchange.
  • Doctoral degree in a related area.
  • Engagement with and/or leadership of innovative global education and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) research and practice.
  • Familiarity or involvement with regional and national study abroad networks; national and international networks of support for global experiential and community-engaged learning, and/or; national and international networks of support for equity and excellence in higher education

We directly administer scholarships/grants and implement global education programming for over 2500 students annually across every school and college on campus (including study and internships abroad, intercultural learning and leadership programs on campus and online, and a Global Studies minor). With Global Affairs, we support UCD faculty and staff across the university to infuse global learning into academic and co-curricular programming that has touched approximately 23,000 students over the past five years.
