At Watermark, the Assistant Operations Manager - Intermodal M&R will provide the leadership and directions for Maintenance & Repair of equipment. The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest productivity and supervision in the repair operation and providing excellent customer service to the lines calling the terminal.

Essential Duties:



  • Directs activities of the mechanics engaged in the Maintenance & Repair of Containers, Chassis, and Refrigerated Container
  • Assists Manager, M&R work group in setting goals and objectives for the operation.
  • Directs the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly statistics for productivity and other operational and financial reports.
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective way to manage the business as well as achievement of operational and financial goals and objectives.
  • Analyzes performance statistics and trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensures good communications throughout the workgroup and their group interactions so that activities are running smoothly on a regular basis.
  • Provides reliable service to customers, ensuring the oldest damages are being turned around regularly.
  • Monitors productivity levels to ensure an efficient operation; sends a weekly detailed labor production recap report for all mechanics as well as the non-producing labor for the prior work week.
  • Ensures safety, health and environmental standards are met throughout the operation.
  • Ensures daily safety meetings are conducted and attended at both M&R Operation and the PA Operations daily meeting.
  • Ensures all accidents/injuries are investigated thoroughly and reviews them with the management team.
  • Ensures M&R staff is familiar with company policies, employment and labor law, collective bargaining agreements and the procedures for implementing and maintaining consistent applications.
  • Maintains a current and accurate inventory of all equipment submitting the required reports meeting each customer's requirements.
  • Ensures that all administrative procedures and reports are completed accurately, submitted on time and to appropriate parties, customers, and other designated personnel.
  • Participates in all customer audits that are conducted at the site level.
  • Ensures all management required daily productivity forms are received from the mechanics at the end of each work shift. They are to be reviewed and measured for accuracy each day.
  • Completes additional duties and tasks as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of Intermodal M&R Equipment experience within the logistics/transportation industry in a managerial capacity, with significant labor relations experience.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation and financial applications, including an understanding of basic accounting, statistics, problem solving, goal setting, and business applications.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related discipline
  • Principles of terminal and stevedore operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of M&R Equipment repair criteria required by each customer.
  • Management of M&R operation including technical mechanical expertise and labor management.
  • Must have a working knowledge of managerial and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other management team members and lead a department of technically proficient individuals.
  • Thorough knowledge of union contracts.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and accident prevention.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • Must be able to exercise sound business judgment to set direction and establish priorities.
  • Excellent managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work.

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, occasional sitting.
  • Work in a terminal / yard setting.
  • Work in changing weather conditions
  • Work in an environment with moving objects and machinery
  • The environment may be hazardous to people unable to see or hear fast moving heavy equipment.
