Your Impact:
- Develop policies and facilitate programs that will shape the future of affordable housing in Irvine through the Housing Element and other affordable housing entitlements.
- Provide appointed and elected officials with the information they need to make key decisions regarding affordable housing.
- Collaborate with private and nonprofit developers to entitle and build affordable housing.
- Prepare and process statistical and written reports.
- Conduct public presentations at community outreach events, commission meetings, City Council meetings and/or other public events or meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning or Engineering, Geography, Architecture, Economics, Public Administration or related field.
- Five years of professional planning experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- May require a valid California driver's license.
Best Fit:
- Experience working in local government, a nonprofit organization, or the private sector creating affordable housing policies, implementing affordable housing programs, developing affordable housing, or reviewing residential entitlements applications.
- Knowledge of the residential development process, urban planning process, government funding sources, density bonus law, inclusionary housing policies and implementation, HUD programs and/or affordable housing monitoring.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and progressive working environment.
- Experience working for or with entities developing affordable housing units, programs, policies, or financing mechanisms.
- Ability to provide the highest level of expertise to complex and politically sensitive projects.
- Exhibit exceptional customer service, written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and project ownership.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, recommend creative solutions and innovative ideas, and work well with internal and external customers.

Your Team The Community Development Department focuses on planning and implementing standards that maintain the City's high quality of life. The department consists of three divisions: Planning Services, Transportation Planning, and Building & Safety. With over 4,500 affordable units in the City and many housing-forward policies, Irvine is considered an affordable housing leader among Orange County governments.

The Process
The selection process will include an examination and conduct a background investigation prior to appointment. This recruitment may establish an eligibility list to fill future positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the organization.
