Job Summary
The College of Education at Chicago State University is inviting applications for a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track or tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor or higher. This position, starting on July 1, 2024, entails serving as the Academic Chairperson for the Department of Education Studies. The academic rank will be determined based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

In collaboration with the Dean of the College of Education, the Academic Chairperson will work to
advance academic innovation and serve as a thought leader, supporting and enhancing academic
excellence alongside dynamic faculty. The Chairperson will act as the chief administrative and
academic officer of the department, with primary responsibilities that include leadership, supervision, coordination, and administration of department programs and activities within a shared governance environment. Additionally, the Chairperson will be an integral member of the College's leadership team.

Job Description
Responsibilities of the Role

  • Provide leadership, direction, and coordination for the department's programs, activities, and professional services in compliance with the State of Illinois Culturally Relevant Teaching and Leading Standards.
  • Formulate, initiate, implement, and interpret policies related to departmental operations.
  • Establish departmental goals and objectives.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and management of departmental staff.
  • Manage financial aspects of the department, including budget control and resource allocation.
  • Interface with advisory committees and participate in university committees.
  • Communicate and consult with other offices or campus officials as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Required qualifications include an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the related discipline(s).
