Assistant Coach, Combined Track & Cross Country

The Highlights:
In accordance with the mission of the Department of Athletics, assist in administering the progress and success of the intercollegiate men's and women's track and field/cross country program within the guidelines of the NCAA, the BIG EAST Conference and DePaul University. This includes all pre-season, in-season and post-season activities necessary to the development of a regionally competitive team.

What You'll Do:



  • Student-Athlete Forward Responsibilities
    * Assist in coordinating the evaluation and recruitment of all track & field student-athletes.
    * Coordinate the preparation and development of all hurdle, jump, and combined-event student-athletes.
  • Student-Athlete & Support Staff Responsibilities
    * Assisting with home track and field meet management;
    * Knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA rules, policies and procedures pertaining to men's and women's track & field/cross country. Attend and participate in monthly NCAA rules compliance meetings.
    * Monitor and encourage the scholastic progress of CC / T&F student-athletes in conjunction with the Athletic Academic Advising Office (AAA), so as to promote their academic success.
    * Responsible for adherence to the program's budget, in conjunction with the Athletic Business Office. Work with Head Coach on travel arrangements, equipment purchases, and expense reports.
    * Establish and maintain quality relationships with alumni and support organizations (Athletic Advisory Council, "D" Club, Blue Crew, etc.) of DePaul University.
  • Assist Head Coach in supervision of volunteer instructional assistants and student assistant coaches and student managers (1-4 individuals).
  • Performing tasks within the scope of the department expense budget.



What You'll Need:



  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years of coaching experience with the hurdles and jumps, preferably at the NCAA Division 1 level
  • USATF or USTFCCCA coaching certification preferred
  • College coaching experience preferred
  • Must be able to manage the physical demands of team practice and competition, including sitting, standing, and physical activity for extended periods of time, often in the elements/various weather conditions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and current recruiting software.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse urban and/or intercollegiate athletics environment.
  • Dedication to serving the department, the University and the student-athletes with the highest level of leadership, initiative and integrity.
  • Position requires working evening, weekend, and University holiday hours, including attending/traveling to all track and field practices, home meets and away meets.
  • Extended travel may be required for competitions and recruiting.
