Senior Transportation Engineer

Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Engineer in Columbus to support project management, project pursuits, and client relationship development, collaboratively in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, excellent planning and communication skills, and the ability to work with other staff in a project team environment. This role will provide the ideal candidate an opportunity to lead and mentor Fishbeck staff, work on exciting projects, and grow with the firm.
Primary Functions
- Assist Traffic Team with traffic tasks and review of studies and reports.
- Project coordinator and liaison with City of Columbus and other communities with existing relationships.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Columbus area counties, cities, and other local agencies to position Fishbeck as the premier transportation services consultant in Ohio.
- Assist with the pursuits, proposals, and develop fees for potential projects.
- Identify funding sources for LPAs and prepare funding applications to secure funds and eventually the project design.
- Project Manager and/or task leader on transportation/traffic projects.
- Leverage existing relationships with private developers to generate transportation and work in other departments, coincide with Fishbeck's All-In-One Visions.
- Work with other departments to provide client development and cross-marketing opportunities.
- Develop strategic alliances with national and regional firms for pursuits in Ohio.
- Assist Marketing Director to develop Ohio/Columbus BD plan.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to technical staff in Ohio offices.
- Assist with recruitment as needed.
- Attend Columbus area client events and professional organizations.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. Will perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and from projects is required. Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education/Licensure
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Desired Skills/Experience
- 20+ years of experience in related transportation engineering or planning positions working on ODOT or local agency projects.
- Experience reaching out to potential clients, coordination and production of proposals, and participation in presentations.
- Proven project management experience.
- Experience writing grants and preparing funding applications for transportation projects.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and project managers, a plus.
- Strong communicator, both written and verbal.
- Self-motivated with a commitment to high-quality work performance.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently when needed.
