Position Purpose
The Digital Technician Specialists position supports all Film & Media and Studio Art courses that include video, sound, and/or time-based components. The specialist will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to carry out curricular goals for Studio Art and Film & Media, including planning, equipment maintenance, and curricular support for digital media. The specialist will maintain the Digital Lab, work with faculty to develop and deliver workshops that advance course needs, and support student projects.

Education and Experience

  • BA or BFA degree in Electronic Media, Film, Graphic Design, Studio Art, or related areas; and/or a combination of education in different disciplines.
  • Candidates will have worked in an educational setting and have experience supporting or overseeing an academic computer lab, working with a range of digital media for 1-2 years.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Equipment - Mac.
  • Software - Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, After Effects, InDesign, and Audition, Twine.
  • Knowledge on use of flatbed scanners and digital printing.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Cultivating a vibrant, collaborative environment in the Digital Lab.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively with less-or non-technical users, often under pressure, while maintaining a positive and cooperative attitude.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software.
  • Commitment to diversity and meeting the changing needs of both departments.
  • Candidates will have experience facilitating technical workshops and/or teaching with software.

Preferred Qualifications


  • MFA degree in related field.
  • Experience as an artist, filmmaker, designer, or interdisciplinary practitioner.
  • Basic knowledge of data wrangling and data visualization, Rhino, AutoDesk, Autocad, Revitt, coding, physical computing (such as Raspberry PI and Arduino) and/or willingness to learn is a plus.

Key Accountabilities


Description
  • Supporting/providing technical assistance, and encouraging student learning with audio, video, sound, and editing software in and outside of classes in the Digital Lab, working 1-2 evenings per week to support students during the x-hour and student monitor hours.
Percentage Of Time 40%


Description
  • Providing training for students and faculty in Adobe Creative Suite and other software and developing instructional workshops and demonstrations for related digital tools and equipment in Studio Art and Film & Media courses.

  • Collaborating with faculty and staff on digital and innovative components of courses and proposals for new equipment.

  • Assisting students in problem-solving project ideas from concept to realization.

  • Working on special projects as needed with other areas of Studio Art, and Film & Media. The technician also accommodates the departments with video/sonic support pertaining to both academics and extracurricular, department-related activities.

  • Teaching safe handling of equipment and materials; maintaining areas for cleanliness as well as safety.

Description
  • Assisting with tracking, inventory, and maintenance of digital equipment and software upgrades. Collaborating with the Technical Directors on digital equipment upkeep, maintenance, and check-out systems.

  • Creating and maintaining a digital archive/library of student projects.
