We are looking for a passionate and creative Economic Development Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will be essential in enhancing our community by utilizing digital marketing strategies to activate public spaces, support local businesses, and drive engagement. You will focus on leveraging social media, websites, and innovative digital campaigns to significantly impact community inclusion, outreach, and awareness. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Research, analyze, report and promote economic and market trends.
- Analyze and develop position papers and memoranda as directed; make presentations to City Council, Planning Commission, business and residents as requested.
- Work with Economic Development Director in implementing a coordinated business recruitment campaign focusing on retaining businesses within the City of Renton.
- Provide financial analysis for projects that require City participation. Prepare specifications and develop Requests for Proposal (RFP's) for public/private projects. Analyze responses and make recommendations on proposals.
- Research, strategize and submit grant applications for potential funding sources for economic development projects.
- Investigate the use of LID's, bonds or other financing instruments that might facilitate redevelopment of business districts.
- Manage projects working with design teams and/or consultants on various economic development projects as assigned.
- Evaluate industrial and commercial development potential of properties.
- Research business issues and complaints and provide recommended solutions.
- Review proposed ordinances and codes that relate to economic development; recommend changes that would encourage or facilitate economic development in desired areas.
- Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.
- Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by recognizing the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.
- Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
- Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management to ensure a well-rounded team for coverage purposes.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May be assigned to support City priorities during emergencies.

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Planning, Marketing, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of commercial real estate, economic development or community development experience.
- Or minimum 7 years of relevant education and experience.
- Valid Drivers' License.
- Successful passing of a required driving record check.
- Successful passing of a required background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Drive to offsite locations to perform essential functions.
- Move throughout City facilities and buildings.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Communicate with City employees, residents and business owners.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in an office environment.
- Work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
- Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
- Night meetings may be required.
