Then become part of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services Children's After-School team! We have an immediate opening for a year-round After-School Specialist, located in Leesburg, VA. The County's After School Activities (CASA) program is an after-school program for elementary school age children currently operating at 49 sites. The specialist may also support the County's Youth After School (YAS) program, operating at 12 middle schools. After-School Specialists utilize strong organization and management skills to oversee the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities and provide supervision of CASA and/or YAS site staff.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Hiring, training, monitoring, and evaluating the work of staff of up to 10 different elementary or middle school locations in the County.
- Maintains program documentation.
- Ensures effective and professional communication with patrons, parents, site personnel, and staff members.
- Assess and identify program needs design programs/activities and provide program evaluation.
- Provides courteous and timely customer service.
- Manages the expenditure of the program budget and ensures that financial resources are used correctly.
- Other essential duties related to the specific role and departmental assignment may also be performed.
The work schedule offers a degree of flexibility, typically running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Programmatic experience and prior staff supervision experience must be indicated on the application.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Associate degree in a field related to the assigned program or department and two (2) years related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field. Two years' experience operating and supervising children's recreational and instructional activities.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Criminal background, Nationwide Fingerprint search, Child Protective Services (CPS), credit, and DMV checks are required. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are necessary for the DMV check, with driving records subject to annual review to ensure ongoing eligibility. At the time of hiring or within four (4) months, individuals are required to hold or acquire First Aid/CPR certifications. Virginia State licensing requires additional experience supervising children during recreational or educational activities
