Are you passionate about guiding students to success? We're looking for a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Transfer Coach.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Academic Advising: Provide personalized education and career assessment plans.

  • Student Management: Oversee a caseload of students, ensuring they stay on track to complete their degrees or certificates.

  • Workshops & Seminars: Develop and collaborate on programs to help students overcome barriers.

  • Transfer Coordination: Assist students with the transfer process to four-year institutions.

  • Student Engagement: Plan and oversee activities for the Achievers Club and other student engagement initiatives.

  • Tutoring Support: Assist students in both virtual and traditional tutoring labs.

  • Policy Knowledge: Maintain a thorough understanding of admissions and college transfer policies.

  • Campus Activities: Participate in campus activities and travel to other campuses as needed.

  • Committee Collaboration: Work with college personnel on retention and completion initiatives.

  • Supervision: Provide on-site supervision of staff in the absence of the Program Director.

Specific Duties:
  • Data Management: Monitor and maintain a database of transfer students.

  • Reporting: Analyze data, prepare reports, and maintain accurate transfer procedures and policy manuals.

  • Workshops: Facilitate transfer workshops for Student Support Services participants.

  • Mentoring Program: Assist with monitoring the Peer Mentoring program.

  • Strategic Planning: Implement plans and strategies in line with college and state education frameworks.

  • Collaboration: Work with the Director on data compilation and reporting for federal compliance.

  • Relationship Building: Maintain contact with four-year institutions to support the university transfer project.

  • Special Projects: Assist the Program Director with special projects as needed.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide Academic Advising, Personalized Education Plans, Career Assessment Plans, Financial Literacy and Scholarships for students of Student Support Services.

  • Managing a caseload of assigned students and working with those students through degree or certificate completion. This includes checkpoint advising as students reach benchmarks towards their degree goals. It also includes monitoring of students schedules each semester to be certain they follow their Guided Pathway and following up with the students to make sure they register for each term.

  • Collaborate on the development of Workshops and Seminars designed to minimize barriers faced by students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • Coordinate and implement the transfer enrollment process to a four-year institution.

  • Coordinate, track, and communicate transfer processes and procedures to assist students with an effective transition to a four-year educational institution of higher learning.

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee activities for the Achievers Club; and student engagement activities.

  • Assist students in the tutoring lab, both virtual and traditional environments.

  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge and understanding of admissions and college transfer Policy.

  • Conduct all aspects of the transfer process including college tours, workshops, coordination with transfer/transition personnel at colleges/universities.

  • Participate in SSS campus activities and travel to other campuses as needed.

  • Collaborate with other College personnel and serve on various committees that focuses, on retention and completion in the absence of Program Director.

  • Develop, maintain, and implement presentations to IRSC programs similar to SSS about the program. (ETS, LEAP, UB, and CROP) IRSC Admission, FA, Registrar, DSS, Career, Faculty.

  • Providing on-site supervision of staff in the absence of the Program Director.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing on-site supervision of full and part time SSS staff in the absence of the Program Director.

  • Monitoring data and maintaining a database of transfer students.

  • Analyzing data, preparing reports as well as researching and responding to inquiries.

  • Maintaining accurate and current Transfer Procedures/Policy Manual and Equivalency Guides.

  • Maintaining and monitoring student files.

  • Preparing and facilitating transfer workshops for Student Support Services participants.

  • Tracking participants' progress in the electronical database.

  • Providing assistance to the Student Support Services Program Director with monitoring Peer Mentoring program.

  • Implementing plans, goals, and strategies to comply with Indian River State College, Student Support Services Program, and the State of Florida "Framework for the State of Education's Strategic Plans."

  • Collaborating with the Director in compiling data for reports, SPOL, annual performance report for federal compliance and other reports needed to substantiate the plans and objectives at IRSC.

  • Providing support of reporting for the Competitive Priority Preferences for the SSS Program.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and working in a collaborative manner.

  • Providing assistance to the Student Support Services Program Director with initiating and maintaining contact with various four-year institutions to facilitate the university transfer project.

  • Assisting the Student Support Services (SSS) Program Director with special projects.

  • This position requires working Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm, with some additional evening or weekend hours during peak times and/or special events.

  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, liberal arts, counseling or related area.

  • Minimum of two (2) years proven experience working with first generation, low income, and disabled student population from diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of higher education (2-4 year colleges and universities) educational programs.

  • Provide direction and guidance to transfer students through leadership and participation in events and activities.

  • Model the values and mission of the Indian River State College and the Student Support Services/TRIO program by welcoming inclusion of all qualified transfer students.

  • Plans and strategies designed to increase undergraduate transfer enrollment of student successes.

  • Excellent communication skills-both verbal and written.

  • Aptitude and interest in learning new things, taking initiative, and developing community.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to empathize and work with persons representing culturally diverse backgrounds.

  • Effectively using organizational and skills, with acute attention to detail, exacting accuracy, and follow-through.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Ability to implement new non-academic services to students to improve retention.

  • Dependability/reliability with assigned tasks and responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate proficiency using standard office software applications with desktop and laptop computers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
