An Electrical Design Engineer is a technical professional who is responsible for creating design specifications for a variety of electromechanical components, primarily including but not limited to designs requiring magnetic field mapping and analysis, modeling of electromagnetic systems and incorporating physics of converting mechanical energy to electrical energy using magnetic principles. They work with internal and external customers on design specifications, so they have excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain critical customer engineering relationships. They complete proposals, prototypes, test plans, and reports, to deliver products that meet the customer's design specifications. The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for product design from concept through production and providing ongoing design support post-launch. What You'll Do
- Create new designs including concept, design, and development of mechanical and electrical components.
- Translate customer specifications into cost-efficient manufacturable assemblies.
- Support the sustainment of existing designs by providing ongoing design support post-launch.
- Adapt existing designs to meet new customer requirements and applications.
- Generate costing information for internally designed and customer-designed solutions.
- Coordinate prototyping with internal and external partners to deliver products to the customer expectations.
- Communicate risks or delays in the completion of customer prototypes.
- Establish test requirements and assist with the testing of new product prototypes to verify product and its conformance to specifications.
- Create and process ECNs/ECOs, as required, to ensure documentation is released, controlled, and remains accurate.
- Review and prepare drawings, establish product standards and specifications, and ensure documentation is accurate.
- Review designs for accuracy, feasibility, economics, and conformance to best engineering practices.
- Complete reverse engineering activities to determine product specifications and materials.
- Review, understand, and support customer program requirements for existing and new designs.
- Technical interface with customers to establish performance/cost targets and execute launches of new products or changes to existing products while developing and maintaining critical relationships with customer engineering teams.
- Understand industry standards and organizational policies/procedures and ensure they are met.
- Design to meet agency requirements and work with third-party testing agencies to achieve compliance.
- Work closely with all functions to ensure information is relayed and documented for a smooth release of new products to production.
- Communicate with internal and external customers to provide technical information, engineering recommendations, action plans, and identification/evaluation of risk.
- Assist commercial and technical personnel with program feasibility assessments and proposals.
- Support the development and implementation of best practices, standards, policies, and procedures for the engineering department.
- Support the implementation and use of lean methodologies such as Daily Visual Management, A3 Problem Solving, and Kaizen.
