About the Job

The Sport Clubs program has a current roster of 22 sport-related student groups and approximately 1,200 participants and is actively recruiting coaches to plan, organize, and lead daily practices and competitions. Each Sport Club is registered as Campus Life Programs (CLPs) on campus and all groups are directly affiliated with University Recreation and Wellness and the University of Minnesota.

All Sport Clubs coaches are directly supervised by the Director of Sport Clubs and are expected to maintain a strong commitment to the University's goal of creating a positive and inclusive campus climate by advancing equity and diversity. The responsibilities of this position typically require coaches to attend, lead, and direct daytime and evening club practices, competitions, and special events.

Payment for coaches will vary based on each club's ability to raise funds.

Embodying the ideals of University Recreation and Wellness, the mission of the Sport Clubs Program is to develop students through competition, instruction, financial responsibility, and general administration of sport clubs. Their goal is to create a safe and fun environment that encourages:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Practice Management: Plan and execute weekly practices, focusing on skill development, team strategy, and conditioning.
  • Game Preparation: Develop game plans, manage team rosters, and make in-game decisions to maximize team performance.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance, encouragement, and support to student-athletes both on and off the field.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all University and Club Sports Program policies, including safety protocols and eligibility requirements.

Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous sport coaching and/or administrative experience required; sport-specific experience preferred (for the sport you are applying to coach)
  • Education: High school diploma or an equivalent or sport coaching and administrative experienc
  • Certifications: CPR/AED Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within the first 30 days of work)
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work with a diverse group of student-athletes.
  • Availability: Must be available for practices, games, and travel as required by an individual Sport Club, which may include evenings and weekends.
