Title: Design Engineer

Position: Non-Exempt

Location: Walnut, CA

Manager: No

Reports to: Engineering Manager

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The focus of this role will be to execute all engineering activities, working with a team to create, evaluate, and solve for the needs of internal and external customers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Meet scheduled hours and dates of all jobs and tasks. Success will be measured by the goal of completing tasks ahead of schedule
  • Maximize efficiency by multitasking projects to ensure timely execution and avoid waiting periods for information or communication
  • Maintain an attitude of continuous improvement, make and implementing suggestions for improvements
  • Maintain a department that is neat, organized, and clean at all times
  • Goal is a self-sustaining department to meet all requirements of internal and external customers


Specific Responsibilities:



  • Review and analyze information packet provided by Program Managers
  • Immediate feedback to PM on anything that does not fit scope criteria at any stage of the engineering process
  • DFM (design for manufacture) and ESI (Early Supplier Involvement) support for internal and external customers
  • Responsible to deliver a mold design that leads to creation of a mold that is within the scope of the project
  • Ensure projects are completed on-time and within budget of allotted engineer hours
  • Ensure tooling guidelines are accurately adhered to, as dictated by both customers and Westfall
  • Utilize software, libraries & existing designs to reduce lead times for projects
  • Schedule Preliminary / Process plan reviews w/ appropriate people
  • Deliver complete design packages to Manufacturing on-time and accurately
  • Assure that the quality of work is to the satisfaction of the internal customer (Tool Makers, FM cell, Roughing cell, EDM cell, Molding) & Westfall Engineering Guidelines
  • Update the Kanban Board as tasks are completed or their status changes
  • First point of contact for ALL engineering related questions on designs you LEAD
  • Make suggestions for equipment, software, training, and resources that would make the department more efficient
  • Train Entry Level employees as required



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • Experience with Injection Molding
  • Technical degree preferred
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude required
  • Organizational abilities a necessity
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Demonstrate ability to be team-oriented in actions and work
  • 3D Solid Modeling experience required
  • PRO/E Wildfire Experience a plus
  • Proficient in SolidWorks
  • Siemens UG experience a plus
  • Proficiency in the ability to use Pro-E software, Excel, Word, Power Point or the ability to learn



Training Needed:



  • Kanban board
  • EMX (CREO)
  • Epicor ERP system



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS



  • Ability to sir for extended periods of time, working with a computer and multiple screens
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs infrequently.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is usually in an office within a manufacturing facility with low to moderate noise level. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Pay: $90,000.00- $115,000.00 depending on experience
