Summary

This position primarily supports the audio-visual needs for the 80 plus events and conferences that HHMI conducts annually. There will also be the need care for our auditoriums and 50 plus conference rooms. You will work closely with the other members of the audio-visual (AV) team and the IT department to deliver high quality customer service in preparation of and during all meetings and events. This is a highly visible position that will influence the users' perception of the quality and the value of our IT department. We are looking for someone who is highly effective and customer oriented.

The AV team supports critical meetings and conferences that have a direct impact on the scientific mission of HHMI. This role will get to see all the scientific presentations. In this position, you will have the opportunity to utilize the latest and greatest gear and participate in the planning process for upgrades.

This position is full-time and reports to HHMI headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD five days a week. The person in this role requires some flexibility in scheduling since some events go beyond traditional work hours and occasionally happen at our other location in Ashburn, VA (Janelia Research Campus).

In this role you will...

  • Provide AV support for conferences and events primarily at the Headquarters location.

  • Provide backup AV support for conferences at the Janelia Research Campus when needed.

  • Support conference rooms and auditoriums for operational meetings.

  • Attend AV planning meetings and dry runs.

  • Setup set up mics for presenters and audience.

  • Assist presenters with loading presentations.

  • Solve basic issues with laptops and computer hardware.

  • Operate control room equipment such as video and audio switches, cameras, and streaming.

  • Responsible for supporting multiple meeting platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and Whova.

  • Provide technical support and conduct routine maintenance on conference room equipment (projectors, video walls, computers, speakers, mics, and VTC equipment).

  • Serve as the first point of contact for solving AV related hardware/software issues.

  • Advance repair of malfunctioning equipment to support vendors and supervise repair request until it is completed be the vendor.

  • Tackle video conferencing connectivity issues.

  • Assist in the installation, configuration and maintenance of the AV network infrastructure.

  • Support after hours meetings and conference when needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Industry technical certifications preferred.

  • Three years of experience supporting enterprise IT hardware or A/V equipment.

  • Experience supporting meeting platforms such as Zoom, Teams, or Webex.

  • Experience in customer facing technical support.

  • Ability to learn high end AV equipment and respond to demands in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.

  • Ability to solve basic PC and Mac hardware issues.

  • Knowledge of office applications such as PowerPoint.

  • Good interpersonal, time management, and service delivery skills are required.

  • Effective written and oral communication.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

Compensation Range

$73,828.42 (minimum) - $92,285.52 (midpoint) - $119,971,18(maximum)
