Job Description Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in medical technology amp; MT (ASCP) certification within one year of hire OR Bachelor's degree in a biological science with post-degree experience in Molecular Biology amp; MB (ASCP) certification within two years of hire, OR Bachelor's degree in microbiology with post- degree experience in Molecular Microbiology amp; M (ASCP) certification within two years of hire, OR advanced post-degree in Molecular Genetics certification not required. Scope of Position The Microbiology Laboratory encompasses specimen collection, processing, and testing within the Department of Clinical Laboratories. Full-service testing includes bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, molecular virology, parasitology, smear interpretation and syndromic molecular testing. The laboratory is staffed up to 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday. The position is responsible for delivering quality laboratory testing to OSUWMC patients and clients as well as to the community. It requires effective verbal and written communication with staff and clients. Position Summary The microbiology technologist performs specimen processing, test request entry, order entry verification and correction, and all clinical lab testing in Microbiology. Testing includes, but not limited to interpretation of smears and cultures, performing and interpreting identification and susceptibility tests, specialized testing in AFB, mycology, parasitology and/or molecular methods as assigned. This technologist also participates in quality control, continuous quality improvement, inventory control, professional development, training, and continuing education within the area.
