Job Description

Position Overview

Responsible for preparing journal entries, preparing reconciliations for assigned accounts, and performing detailed account analysis and interpreting results.

Responsibilities
1. Prepare journal entries for assigned accounts
2. Review GL accounts/financial statements for reasonableness
3. Identify event: e.g., missing rent, utilities, charges posted to the wrong account
4. Estimate the amount to accrue, defer, reverse or change based upon historical data and knowledge of business
5. Determine which accounts are affected
6. Determine whether to increase or decrease balances in those accounts
7. Record journal entry
8. Prepare reconciliations for assigned accounts
9. Review balance sheet account balances
10. Agree balance to supporting documentation/source (operating system, bank statements, etc)
11. Identify variances between documentation/source and GL
12. Research variances to identify the cause(s) of variance
13. Determine if GL account needs to be increased or decreased
14. Prepare and record journal entry (as above)
15. Prepare reconciliations for assigned accounts
16. Determine if branch acquired/purchased new business that needs to be booked or considered in the analysis
17. Determine if all revenue/accounts receivable posted to GL correctly
18. Verify GL postings for certain expenses agree to supporting documentation: identify/research/resolve differences
19. Review Fixed Assets: identify/research/resolve for additions, gain/loss on sales, disposals, etc
20. Review Trial Balance: identify/research/resolve any unusual balances
21. Review Trended P&L: identify/research/resolve any unusual balances
22. Determine if adjusting entries for accruals/deferrals needed
23. Compare P&L to the prior year, prior month, budget, projections, etc.; identify/research/resolve issues
24. Prepare and record journal entries (as above) for all previous steps
25. Perform detailed account analysis/analytics and interpret results
26. Prepare schedules for auditors
27. Assist with monthly financial presentations and analysis
28. Serve as liaison to field managers, assisting with financial issues
29. Perform ad-hoc financial analysis
30. Assist in the integration of new team members, supervise less experienced team members

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting and 2 - 5 years of accounting or related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with financial accounting, operational accounting or finance required
  • JD Edwards and/or Cognos experience preferred
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Access and Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and accounting software (e.g., JD Edwards, Cognos)
  • Ability to work collaboratively cross-functionally contributing to team success
  • Able to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Detail-oriented, highly motivated with a strong work ethic and quality orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze accounts, identify variances and unusual trends, and interpret results
  • Understanding of business processes and impact of such processes on accounting processes/procedures, including identifying control risks
  • Technical/professional knowledge and skills
  • Adaptability, applied learning, and initiating action
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

Pay Ranges
$54,983.00 - $91,638.00

This range is based on the qualifications necessary for the position, including experience, training, and other considerations permitted by law. Factors that may be used when making an offer may include a candidate's skills, experience, and geographic location, the expected quality and quantity of work, and internal pay alignment, as needed. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the pay range. The upper end of the range will generally be reserved for candidates with extensive experience. An employee's pay history will not be a contributing factor where prohibited by local law. In addition to monetary compensation, we offer benefits, including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance and Company-matching 401(k) in addition to other programs and perks.
