Job Description: Position Summary: The HSE Site Lead will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining HSE policies, practices and Roadmaps in Mount Vernon Operations. This role will have a leadership presence within the factory area while also coaching site leadership and field service teams. The HSE Site Lead will work closely with the operational management team to develop line management HSE capability and the implementation of good people management practices through advising on complex operational and technical HSE matters, while coaching and mentoring all levels of the Operations teams. This will be a very high demanding position and will suit a person who has a passion to make a difference in highly successful, dynamic global company. HSE Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the site HSE policy development, strategic planning, Zero Harm and HSE Roadmap development, address any compliance issues and keep updated with current legislation.
- Provide HSE advice specific to the business, acting as a technical expert and internal consultant; direct, lead and coach the team.
- Develop, initiate and coordinate short, medium and long-term activities for sustained HSE Performance and continually enhance the safety culture.
- Increasing awareness of HSE through training, communication and support managers to secure meaningful employee involvement in HSE.
- Actively lead implementation of legal, insurance and Corporate standards.
- Foster positive relationships with governmental agencies
- Managing reporting and investigation procedures for accidents/incidents and workers Compensation Clams.
- Support and implement robust risk management systems.
- Create, maintain, and oversee the compliance calendar for all regulatory requirements ensuring sites remain compliant. Effectively address enforcement actions from local, state, or federal agencies.
- Ensure regulatory compliance of all environmental permits and processes.
- Lead environmental controls, waste management systems, spill prevention, storm water pollution prevention,
- Lead carbon and energy reduction projects to reduce sites carbon footprint.
- Monitor and report on KPI's, report weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually on progress.
- Chair HSE committee meetings and conduct periodical management reviews.
- Support and help build a culture of wellness through collaboration with HR
- Work together with site leadership on budget and finance planning as per site strategy.
- Leading and implementing in-house (and external where required) HSE training with Managers.
- Management of internal HSE audits and external compliance audit programme.
- Ensuring compliance to policies and procedures through internal and external site inspections and 5S audits.
- Recognize employee accomplishments and contributions to HSE.
- Representing and promoting the organisation's HSE performance to third parties (e.g. clients, contractors, hauler, OSHA, EPA, other stakeholders as necessary).
The successful candidate must have:
- Certified AS / BS / MS in occupational health, safety, or a related field such as engineering, biology, or chemistry.
- OSHA 30 Training
- A minimum of three years' HSE related experience
- A minimum of three years' experience working within Manufacturing/Operations environment or equivalent
- Knowledge of environmental remediation protocols and techniques
- Strong working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety compliance law and industrial hygiene
- Ability to identify hazards, critical process, and system needs and implement as appropriate
- High standard of written English and good communication skills, including professional telephone manner and strong presentation and report writing skill
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Ability to work at a high level under pressure
The below would also be desirable though not essential:
- Certified or working towards Safety Professional Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional
- Experience of implementation, development or auditing of management systems; OHSAS 18001/ISO45001, ISO50001, ISO14001, ISO9001
- Experience of coaching and mentoring
- Problem solving skills
- Experience within heavy manufacturing environment
- Thorough understanding of lean manufacturing
- Ergonomics Training
