Job Summary:



The Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has an open position for a tenure-track regular faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek outstanding individuals with research focused on mechanistic investigations that employ quantitative approaches (biophysical, electrophysiological, structural, imaging, and/or cell-biological) to understand fundamental processes in molecular or cellular physiology. We particularly encourage candidates whose questions and approaches complement and/or extend the Department's existing research strengths in ion channels, molecular biophysics, membrane protein physiology, neuroscience, sensory systems, and cardiovascular and muscle research (www.medschool.ucdenver.edu/physiology). Successful applicants are expected to lead a vigorous, externally funded research program and to participate in professional and graduate teaching.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Candidate will lead an original and productive research group, secure external funding, and publish their work.
  • Candidate is expected to teach courses in the graduate and/or medical schools.


Candidate is expected to participate in service to the department and University.



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Extra-departmental interactions within molecular biophysics, neuroscience and physiology, including basic science and translational collaborations, are facilitated by several NIH-supported interdepartmental graduate programs and centers (e.g., Neuroscience Program, Pharmacology program, Structural Biology and Biochemistry program). Other shared resources include cores for biophysics and molecular interactions, molecular structure, electron microscopy, genomics, proteomics, and transgenic rodents.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor:



  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with specialty in Physiology, Biophysics, Neuroscience, or closely related field
  • Three years of post-doctoral research experience
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed academic publications
  • A well-developed plan for independent research and funding


Associate Professor:



  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with specialty in Physiology, Biophysics, Neuroscience, or closely related field
  • Five years at Assistant Professor or equivalent research scientist rank
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed academic publications
  • A well-developed plan for continued independent research and funding


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated excellence, originality, and productivity in research
  • A track record of competitive, peer-reviewed grant funding
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Willingness to collaborate
  • Mentorship experience of trainees (undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral researchers)
  • Having received training in mentorship and/or teaching practices and theories


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Strong knowledge of advanced principles relevant to their specialty in biomedical research
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches
  • Ability to investigate the properties of statistical methodology through simulation or other means
  • Ability to develop new methodologies and disseminate these innovations through publication and/or presentations
  • Good organizational skills across individual projects, managing own workload
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to foster diversity within the Department and University
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work with other biomedical investigators and colleagues across the department, school, and university.
  • Ability to contribute to the growth and development of the Department
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor - $110,000 - $130,000

Associate Professor - $135,000 - $155,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
