NGP VAN is the winningest technology platform in the history of democratic and progressive causes, working tirelessly to innovate and advance the technology our clients rely on to bolster our democracy. We help power the trailblazers, campaigners, and advocates fighting up and down the ticket for equality, racial justice, reproductive freedom, democracy, climate reform, and more- including the national Democratic committees and progressive organizations, thousands of Democratic campaigns, hundreds of labor unions, advocacy organizations, progressive and non-partisan PACs, and other organizations.

The ActionKit team needs you to help our clients win fights to make the world a better place.

ActionKit is used by nearly 150 progressive groups and nonprofits to help tens of millions of online supporters contact decision makers, donate money, and take action online and offline. Our clients--the Color of Change, MoveOn.org, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and others--use our tools to protect immigrant rights, fight climate change and more. Our scalable, flexible tools and APIs make us the choice of some of the most tech-savvy progressive organizations using the Internet to fight for good.

ActionKit is built and maintained by a small, tight-knit team at NGP VAN, the top provider of technology for Democrats and progressives. ActionKit has been around for over a decade, and the team has always worked together remotely. If you'd like to use your tech and customer support skills to make the world a better place, read on.

Our small team is looking for a remote US-based Lead QA Engineer to own product quality, helping us consistently build and ship the tools that our clients need to change the world. Does a new feature do what it says on the tin? Does it do justice to the original request? Is the UI intuitive and responsive? What about corner cases and mischievous users? These are a few of the questions you'll regularly wrestle with.

Between testing efforts, you have room for your own contributions. Maybe that's automating QA tasks, improving documentation, or fixing an irksome bug yourself. The team is flexible and informal. There's room for you to find your niche.

Is this the job for you?

  • You've worked with ActionKit as a developer or campaigner. If you haven't worked with ActionKit then you've either worked with similar tools or participated in one of our client's advocacy campaigns.

  • You have a track record of finding needles in haystacks through creativity, intuition, patience, and sometimes a little luck. We ship a lot. Occasionally something should get a polish or a second pass before clients see it. We want to find those rare cases without searching the entire haystack.

  • You've learned complicated new tools or systems through experimentation and self-directed research. We lean on judgement and context over process and checklists, getting the full picture takes some triangulation.

  • You've proposed changes to a feature, tool, or product that went on to be implemented. You'll work directly with our engineers throughout the QA process. Our engineers are capable, smart, and do great work. And when something needs attention, it's your feedback they work from.

  • You know SQL and have used some combination of Python, Django, and REST APIs. If you haven't directly worked with these, you've seen these up close and have probably used something similar.

  • You can see problems from diverse perspectives, including that of campaigners, developers, and members of the public. You've probably have experience as a technical writer, developer advocate, software developer, product manager, database manager, or similar.
