The Aircraft Mechanic II - Propulsion will primarily perform all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft and
equipment maintenance, both on and off equipment, on assigned aircraft and equipment in accordance with
the Performance Work Statement (PWS), M1 policy, DAFI 21-101(and supplements), as well as industry
standards.
Responsibilities may include:
* Maintains repairs/modifies aircraft structures and structural components and engines of moderate
difficulty.
* Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines,
hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
* Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment
malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.
* Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting
technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals.
* Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair
procedures and replacement of parts, a broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural
modification and repair and basic knowledge of electrical theory.
* Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches,
dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
* Will be required to perform at a moderate level of competency in one or more of the following areas:
repair and reclamation, egress, electro/environmental, avionics, wheel & tire, sheet metal, composite
repair, propulsion, fuels, AGE, armament, munitions, non-destructive inspection (NDI), and
pneudraulics.
* Maintains aircraft and support equipment forms records IAW AF procedures utilizing AF Information
Systems and forms as required.
* Performs transient aircraft support, CDDAR team chief, Phase dock, QA augmentation, Wheel & Tire
duties.
* Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum of five years performing aircraft propulsion maintenance functions in a military
environment and attainment of an Air Force 5 level (or equivalent) is required. F-117A experience
highly desired.
* Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to deal with stressful situations and timelines while
maintaining a professional and non-confrontational attitude.
* Shall assist other personnel and work centers as directed, and perform other duties as assigned.
* Must be able to make entries in aircraft logs and records and is responsible for providing guidance and
technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or
maintenance effort.
* The incumbent must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to
structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike.
* The incumbent must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft
delivery schedule.
* Will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be
required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
* Working knowledge of principles applying to aircraft systems, concepts and applications of
maintenance directives, data reporting, and using technical data is mandatory.
* Knowledge of Air Force supply and efficiency reporting procedures is mandatory.
* Knowledge of the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials is mandatory.
* Must be able to obtain/maintain the security clearance level as mandated by the government
customer.
* Maintains qualifications contained on the Special Certification Roster (SCR) as directed.
* Must possess a current valid U.S. Driver's License.
* Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
* High school diploma or GED is required.
Working Conditions:
* Position requires complying with unique commuting/travel requirements.
* Will work in aircraft hangars and outside on aircraft ramps within close proximity of running
equipment and aircraft.
* Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, or overtime shifts as required.
* May work outdoors, sometimes in hot or cold weather.
* May be exposed to contaminants.
* May be exposed to hazardous conditions, such as when standing on scaffolding or climbing ladders
* Will be exposed to loud and persistent noise
* Will be required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as: safety toe footwear, safety
glasses, etc.
