The Position

This position supports student recruitment and enrollment through the FIPSE Basic Needs Grant, and also provides direct student academic and non-academic coaching to increase institutional persistence and retention.

Classification: Non-Affiliated Administrator

Staff Duration: Full Time 12 months

COMPENSATION OFFER: The salary range for this position is as posted. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the range with consideration of experience and qualifications of the position.


What You Will Do

1. Provides holistic assistance for students; guides students throughout their time at the College; assists students in exploring options, setting goals, and creating a plan to achieve desired outcomes; communicates proactively with students throughout all phases of the student experience.
2. Monitors student academic progress and grant funding by using college administrative systems.
3. Provides coaching, advice, and referrals to internal and external resources and services; collaborates with various OCC offices/resources and external resources/partners to identify, recommend and refer students to appropriate services to meet the social and human services needs of students, including crisis intervention, counseling and follow-up as needed.
4. Manages student interactions through CRM system, including documenting communications with students, maintaining accurate, organized, completed, and detailed records of telephone calls, emails, digital messaging, text messaging and classrooms visits; develops and maintains reports as required or assigned.
5. Administers and reviews results of non-cognitive assessments to make intentional outreach with students to support educational achievement.
6. Develops knowledge of and adheres to College policies and procedures that relate to degree requirements, courses, course selection, scheduling, pre-registration and registration, and college admission.
7. Maintains working knowledge of services offered by College personnel and departments, and assists students in fully utilizing all the resources available to them at the College.
8. Participates in designated training and/or conferences and stays up to date on departmental and institutional training, processes and procedures.
9. Makes suggestions and recommendations on how to best serve marginalized, underrepresented and/or marginally underserved populations in an effort to assist students with institutional persistence and retention.
10. Related project assistance and duties as assigned.


The Successful Candidate Must Have

1. Associate's Degree in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling, education, or related academic discipline.
2. Bilingual in English and Spanish required; should have excellent writing and oral communication skills
3. A minimum of two to three years of experience in student affairs and/or student support, academic support programs, or similar programs for disadvantaged and/or underrepresented students
4. One to three years of experience administering student assessments, developing Individual Service Plans (ISPs) or Individual Education Plans (IEPs), understanding of grant compliance requirements and willingness to adhere to grant timelines and deliverables. Must show evidence of professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers like those facing the project participants.
5. Demonstrated proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office Suite and prior database experience that required the ability to create standard documents and reports and perform database maintenance activities; prior experience with web based tools.
