Job Summary



  • This position is for a Quality Technician for our facility in Birmingham, Alabama. The position tests product batches and will make adjustments as necessary to ensure compliance with customer specifications and quality standards. Tests incoming raw materials and maintains Certificates of Analysis (COA) from suppliers.
  • 12 Hour Day Shift 4am-4:30pm- rotating days- includes every other weekend

Essential Functions



  • Performs standard tests on assigned product line production batches and on some incoming raw materials as needed, ensuring the meeting of Avient and the customer's specifications.
  • Act as a technical resource to production addressing issues related to production batches.
  • Recommends to production and may develop adjustments to batches to meet specifications.
  • Records test results in SAP. Maintains reference files.
  • Completes and maintains all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
  • Ensures all gauges and test equipment are verified.
  • May participate in investigations of complaints and corrective actions as needed.
  • Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulation. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Completes and sends documentation to customers (i.e. COA).
  • Other duties as assigned.



Education and Experience



  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • One (1) year of Quality experience.
  • One (1) year of Lab, Production, and Color Matching Experience.
  • One (1) year of Problem Solving Techniques.
  • Fork Lift Operators License.
  • Quantitative and Conflict Resolution Skills.
  • Manual Dexterity.
  • Reading/Comprehension.
  • IT Security Education.
  • Microsoft Office


Qualifications



  • Self-motivated with strong organization skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Time management skills
  • Quantitative and statistical skills
  • Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office products
  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications.
  • Must have mathematical skill to add, subtract, multiply and divide and the ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate one-on-one and in small group situations.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, scales, hand trucks, fork lift, utility knife, and mixer/secondary machinery and computer equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to rapidly learn the operation and set up of industrial machinery per operating procedures while following all training and plant procedures

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities may require close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to loud.
