Purpose

We are seeking a learning intelligence analyst to join an Academic Affairs team that is passionate about enhancing the UT Austin student academic experience. This position will play a crucial role in leveraging data from the Canvas learning management system (LMS) and other learning technologies to drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and student success. It requires proficiency using quantitative methods, creative thinking about data schemas, expert data visualization skills, and an eagerness for effective and dynamic communications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty, academic support staff, and instructional leaders to identify key questions and metrics that inform the design of data projects and services.

  • Serve as a campus-wide subject matter expert on Canvas LMS data, providing actionable insights that support evidence-based decision-making.

  • Extract, clean, and analyze learning data from the Canvas LMS and other sources to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for instructional improvement.

  • Create and continuously improve impactful and accessible data visualizations, dashboards, and reports using tools such as Tableau or Power BI to communicate key findings to diverse stakeholders.

  • Ensure data integrity through rigorous and ethical data governance practices, documentation, and quality assurance testing.

  • Stay current with advances in learning analytics and identify opportunities to leverage new data sources, methods, and tools to support institutional goals.

Required Qualifications
  • It's possible that no single candidate will offer all desired qualifications - above all else, we're looking for someone with a foundation in data analytics and an eagerness and ability to learn new skills and solve dynamic problems in an encouraging and expansive environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., social sciences, statistics, applied mathematics, economics) or commensurate experience or credentials.

  • 2+ years of experience conducting data analysis in an educational context, ideally in higher education.

  • Excellent knowledge of databases, data flows, and data manipulation in both operational and analytical contexts; proficiency with SQL-based languages; expertise with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) for data analysis and presentation; proven ability to produce high-quality design solutions through wireframes, visual and graphic designs, and prototypes.

  • Strong knowledge of data management best practices including data security, privacy, and governance; familiarity with accessibility standards for data visualizations and other forms of digital content.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences in speaking and in writing.

  • Equivalent combination or substitution of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant quantitative discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience with data from Canvas, APIs, the Unizin Data Platform, or Google BigQuery.

  • Demonstrated experience with Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or similar applications.

  • Familiarity with UT Austin's administrative computing environment.

  • Familiarity with advanced statistical modeling and machine learning techniques.

  • Knowledge of learning science, pedagogy, and instructional design principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex data projects from ideation to implementation.

Salary Range

$76,000+ depending on qualifications
