How You Will Contribute:

Reporting to Director, Learning, as the Converged Routing Learning Curriculum Leader, you will will lead the development engaging, state-of-the art learning solutions including eLearning, instructor-led courses, and on-demand learning resources for customers, partners and internal audiences. You will partner with existing curriculum managers, subject matter experts, hardware and software developers and other team members, to develop hands-on technical certification courses, and labs that build on the existing technical certification stack (Carrier Ethernet, Optical Communications, Route Switch).

  • In alignment with Ciena's organizational goals and objectives, design and develop innovative learning solutions that meet audience training needs.
  • Work with technical subject matter experts and eLearning developers to develop eLearning courses, instructor-led courses, instructional materials, and on-demand resources that are effective, engaging, and consistent with best practices in adult education.
  • Create project plans including timelines and deliverables for training development projects.
  • Design role specific learning programs based on needs and audience analysis.
  • Conduct needs assessments and audience analysis to determine instructional objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Explore a variety of sources, obtain, and interpret a range of engineering information including technical notes, drawings, design specifications, and related documents.
  • Analyze new product releases to determine the impact on existing training content and identify new training needs.
  • Review course materials and design documents from other team members, provide feedback and recommendations.
  • Review and validate learning objectives throughout the course development and pilot process.
  • Review and evaluate feedback from students and instructors and take corrective action to improve courses based on feedback.
  • Creation and maintenance of certification tests that measure competencies for products and related technologies.
  • Track and measures the learning effectiveness of courses and learning products.
  • Create storyboards and outlines for eLearning production.
  • Identify, interview, and build relationships with subject matter experts, technical staff, and management to develop training objectives, training collateral, and courseware.
  • Development of materials for ILT and VILT courses.

The Must Haves:

  • Technical degree (BA/BS or greater), or equivalent combination of education and technical training development.
  • Minimum 6-8 years' work experience in technical training and/or technical content design and development.
  • Certifications related to networking, telecommunications, and/or network automation/programming.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying adult learning methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in training development using instructional design models such as ADDIE, SAM, or equivalent.
  • Experience reviewing and critiquing instructional materials.
  • Experience evaluating the instructional effectiveness of learning programs.
  • Working knowledge of Photonic, Broadband, DWDM & OTN switched networks (L0/L1).
  • Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of Converged Packet Optical, ROADM, Fixed and Flex-Grid networks.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of Photonic transmission lines, Edge & Metro Networks.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of DWDM, fiber optics, OTN, network management systems, and network function virtualization (NFV).
  • Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of Ethernet, and Carrier Ethernet technologies such as 802.x, RSTP, G.8032, MPLS, MPLS-TP, E-Line, E-Lan, and E-Tree.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of IPv4, IPv6, and IPSec.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of internal and external routing protocols such as eBGP, iBGP, OSPF, ISIS.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of technical L2/L3 routing concepts such as L2/L3 VPNs.
  • Experience in Telecommunication, Network Consultant or Network Support Engineering.
  • Technical background in SD-WAN and software-based networking.
  • Experience working with BSS, OSS, and NMS.
  • Project/Program management for projects with multiple team members and roles.
  • Demonstrated skills in creating original technical training and/or online content.
  • Excellent communications, people interface, and team working skills. (including multi-cultural experience training a technical audience from varied international locations)

Good To Have :

  • Experience with 6500 D/S Series, T-Series, PTS & RLS.
  • Experience with Ciena 39xx, 51xx, and 81xx devices.
  • Experience with SAOS 6, SAOS 8 or SAOS 10.
  • Experience with Navigator NCS and/or Blue Planet software such as Orchestrator or ROA.
  • Experience with Traffic Engineering and Quality of Service.
  • Experience with Network Oriented Programming or Network Automation.
  • Experience SD-WAN and Virtualization.
  • Experience working with Navigator NCS, AIPA, and Ciena Planning Tools.
