Job Summary Assists in care of patients of all ages before, during and after surgical procedures by performing scrub duties and related functions as a member of the surgical team on a novice to advanced beginner level completing identified job competencies. Maintains patient safety, privacy and confidentiality. Complies with legal aspects of patient care. Complies with sterilization standards and standards for handling sharps or contaminated instruments. Participates in quality improvement activities and completes hospital required education annually. This position requires some on call work. Accountabilities Administers preps and transports patients and specimens. Provides equipment maintenance, cleaning and disinfecting and prepares procedure rooms for the following day's schedule and stocks equipment and supplies. Assists nurses and physicians during all procedures and performs Hemocult B testing: takes pH readings and other selected lab tests.* Demonstrates competence in working with all equipment utilized in the Endoscopy Department to include scopes, light sources, electrocautery system and all other accessories and attachments used in Endoscopy and demonstrates effective cleaning of each. Demonstrates competence in assisting with PEG or PEJ placement and care of site in conjunction with RN or RRT.* Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting priorities, patient reassignments, and personal schedule to meet the needs of the department. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Education - High School diploma or equivalent. Specialized training in sterile processing, surgical technology or on-the-job training preferred.
