Overview
Job Purpose The Engineer, Facilities Engineering provides support of the operation, maintenance and design of mechanical, electrical plumbing (MEP) system infrastructure supporting the operation of the data center and critical IT spaces. Each Facilities Engineer is part of the team responsible for supporting the MEP plant components including chillers, UPS, generators, cooling systems, fire systems and building control systems. This position is responsible for ensuring the continuous availability of the data center plant systems and in providing 7x24 support for the data center and other critical spaces. This position requires an extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical theory and MEP infrastructure that supports the Data Center as well as an eager attitude, professionalism, and solid communication skills. Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to enhance operation and maintenance procedures including the development of test procedures and schedules.
- Document all mission critical emergency and operational procedures and maintain as-built documentation.
- Support highly complex or sensitive electrical, mechanical, control and fire system installations and maintenance.
- Participate all phases of projects including feasibility, analysis, design, budgeting, scheduling and implementation.
- Perform design modifications in accordance with applicable codes.
- Review and follow technical procedures.
- Support the Facility Manager in the evaluation of space and capacity requests.
- Respond to operational emergencies including fire alarms, loss of power, and equipment failures and interact with city agencies regarding operational problems and emergencies.
- Provide support of remote facilities when required.
- Support mentoring of junior staff to ensure continuity of training and quality results.
Knowledge and Experience
- Electrical/mechanical/industrial engineering degree or equivalent technical/work experience and a minimum of 3 years of critical site experience.
- Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of critical mechanical and electrical support systems includes; air conditioning, chillers, cooling towers, emergency generator systems, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) and industrial automation systems.
- Ability to independently solve all degrees of engineering problems.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards; National Electric Code, Local Building Codes, ASHRAE standards, NFPA fire protection codes.
- Ability to independently plan and manage multiple projects including development of test procedures and schedules.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to successfully interact with both internal and external customers.
- Strong working knowledge of building monitoring and controls systems and SCADA interfaces.
- High level of proficiency in using a personal computer and Microsoft Office software.
- Understanding of budgets and procurement processes.
- Required to be on call 7x24 including weekends and holidays.
- Available to travel to remote in region and out of region facilities.
