Overview

Job Purpose

The Administrator, Systems Engineering is responsible for supporting and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed UNIX and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and supports other engineering and operations teams. Additionally, the Systems Administrator performs root cause analysis of problems, identifies areas for process improvement, remediates issues, and executes tasks to deliver on project-based initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, planning and implementation of server solutions
  • Tune systems for maximum available performance
  • Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment
  • Evaluate, test, and integrate new operating system versions, drivers, and patches
  • Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutions
  • Provide support to, and coordinate with, developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-users
  • Educate and mentor team members and operations staff
  • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support
  • Participate as a resource for project driven initiatives
  • Identification and automation of manual tasks using scripting and application development
  • Investigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needs arise
  • Provide first level support for all server related issues across the enterprise

Knowledge and Experience

  • Beginner to moderate level experience with the Linux Operating System (RedHat variants preferred) and/or Windows Server
  • Build automation and configuration management
  • Beginner to moderate experience coding with any combination of Perl, Ruby, Bourne, Python, Java, API's, and others
  • Automation tools
  • Top-tier critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a service-oriented team environment
  • Project Management, organization, and time management
  • Customer focused, and dedicated to the best possible user experience
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and business resources

Desired

  • Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering
  • Exposure to and familiarity with Kafka, Cloudera, Hadoop, or similar
  • Exposure to AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, or other container technologies

Schedule

This role offers work from home flexibility of 1 day per week.
