Indirect Tax Manager

About the Role

The Indirect Tax Manager is to handle the complete indirect tax management of all U.S. group of entities. Capable of managing all Sales & Use Tax and Excise Tax at both federal and State level. Accountable for timely and accurately filling of the periodic Sales & Use tax returns, the excise tax returns as well as reporting of indirect tax provisions. Handle indirect tax audits and requirements with governmental authorities as first point of contact. Supervise current and impending changes to indirect tax regulations and ensure the business is continuously compliant.



What you will do

  • The Indirect Tax Manager is accountable for the indirect tax position of all U.S. group entities. All in coordination with the Local country Tax Manager and the Regional Tax Director Americas;
  • Tax compliance: Setting up and maintaining indirect tax governance in line with JTI global standards. Actively pursuing improvements and efficiencies of IDT related processes & procedure. Accountable for: the preparation, including supporting files, and timely filing of periodic indirect tax returns for all entities, e.g excise tax, Sales & Use Tax, where applicable in coordination with external tax firms; Handling (including preparation) of indirect tax audits and other tax requirements with governmental authorities; Manage and maintain a tax calendar and supervise due dates; Actively managing Indirect Tax refunds and outstanding payables / receivables of all entities; Pro-actively track and manage notices and identify and correct past mistakes; Manage and keep track of State / Local jurisdiction registrations;
  • Actively engaging with internal and external business partners to ensure all Excise and Sales & Use Tax aspects of operations are continuously considered and improved were possible. Stimulates and establishes good working relationships with internal and external business partners including a.o. revenue authorities, tax consultants, etc; Monitor, review, maintain and update the nexus status of the different entities;
  • Local Indirect tax developments: The indirect tax manager: Is accountable for proactively monitoring and following up on US indirect tax developments and trends that impact the US business; Supports the business to ensure that the relevant changes to processes and procedures in the supply chain are implemented in compliance with IDT legislation; Assists in broader US business development activities;



Who We Are Looking For

A dynamic, passionate, and result-oriented person, with:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business/Law;
  • Minimum of 5+ Years of experience with excise duties and experience with Sales & Use taxes is considered a must (Experience is gained preferably in a multi-national FMCG organization);
  • Proficiency in English with excellent written and oral communication skills;
