Job Description Summary |
The
House Managers ensure the smooth operation of the theater lobby and corresponding venue - Callahan Theater and Beston Hall primarily - seating areas. They provide high-level customer service to patrons before, during, and after shows, lead the Front of House team of ushers and volunteers, collaborate with the Stage/Production Manager and Box Office Coordinator, facilitate accessible seating, and maintain safe public areas. |
Essential Functions |
- Foster a welcoming and professional environment for all patrons, students, staff, and volunteers.
- Lead the Front of House team and ensure the smooth running of FOH operations (usher position assignments, late seating policies, program distribution, ticket scanning, accessible seating, emergency evacuation procedure, safe conditions of public areas, etc.).
- Facilitate entry of all patrons into the venue in a safe and orderly fashion.
- Collaborates with the Stage/Production Manager and Box Office Coordinator to determine when to open the 'House' (when it is safe and appropriate for the general public to enter the theater), and assure seamless event timeline(s) and needs.
- Handles any patron issues or concerns/emergencies that may arise during the event.
- Prepare timely/accurate submission of event reports following each performance.

Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- Proficiency using Excel and Google Docs.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse groups of people in a professional and engaging manner.
- Able to work independently.
- Must be able to work some evening/weekend shifts.

Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- The ability to work during school breaks is helpful.
- Music and theatre knowledge is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities |
- In addition to overseeing students, ushers, greeters, and volunteers, the House Manager is the public 'face' of the performance venue and is responsible for the safe and serene operation of the lobby and auditorium before, during and after all events.

Physical Requirements |
- Standing, walking, climbing stairs, moving companion chairs, lifting boxes of printed event programs, moving and storing patron service equipment (walkers, wheelchairs, scooters, etc).
