The Simulation team at Waymo is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of software and ML engineers and data scientists. We design and build an industry-leading simulation solution with advanced ML algorithms that measures and boosts the performance of the Waymo Driver. Some of our team's work has been featured in the Waymo blog ("Simulation City"), with more papers and videos to come. We're looking for a curious and experienced Tech Lead Manager to accelerate the tech development and growth of Waymo.

In this hybrid role, you will report to a Software Engineering Manager.

You will:


  • Lead a world-class R&D team on building ML-driven simulation solutions to accelerate Waymo's growth;
  • Apply deep domain expertise in Machine Learning (especially Generative AI), Computer Vision, or Computer Graphics to push simulation realism and autonomous driving to the next level;
  • Drive the whole lifecycle of tech innovation, from prototypes to productization into large-scale simulation and data processing systems;
  • Grow and manage high-caliber ML & Software Engineers in an exciting, fast-paced, diverse environment.


You have:


  • M.S. in Computer Science (or related fields) + 10 years working experience, or a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or related fields) + 7 years working experience;
  • Academic background and industrial experience in one or more related fields: Machine Learning, Computer Vision / Perception, Computer Graphics & Rendering;
  • 5+ years experience in team leadership and people management.


We prefer:


  • 3+ years experience in simulation, autonomous driving, and robotics;
  • Direct experience in Generative AI, including multi-modal foundation models and Diffusion models.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
