Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. We solve hard, real-world problems such as demand planning, pickup / dropoff optimization, fleet optimization, field escalation handling, and more - cross-cutting problems that require cross-team collaboration, both technically (mobile app, cloud backends, and the Waymo Driver) and functionally (operations, product, legal, partnerships, policy & privacy) to develop and deliver business critical infrastructure. If you're a product-minded engineer who's curious and passionate about the potential of autonomous cars, we'd like to meet you.

We are looking for a Senior Staff TLM to help build something that has never been built before - automated, optimized fleet management for autonomous vehicles at scale.

In this hybrid role ,you will report to the Technical Lead Manager for Fleet Infrastructure.

You will:

  • Manage a team of 8+ SWEs within Commercialization Engineering
  • Guide the short-term roadmap and long term technical vision of the team
  • Collaborate with Operations, Product, Data Science, and other engineering teams to develop systems as our needs grow and evolve
  • Navigate uncertainty, solving large, open-ended problems

You have:

  • 3+ years of experience managing teams
  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • Experience working with backend tech / distributed systems (e.g. C++, Spanner)
  • Execution mindset

We prefer:

  • Experience leading an organization through a time of technical or product change; experience in a startup environment
  • Experience working in environments including nontechnical partners
  • Experience with Google infrastructure (e.g. Flume, Borg, Protocol Buffers)
  • Experience in the following domains: logistics, operations tooling, ride hailing / delivery
  • Experience in optimization, operations research, or relevant ML-based approaches
