UC Santa Cruz CARE (Center for Advocacy, Resources & Empowerment) is excited to announce an opportunity to join our team. We are looking for an Advocate to provide confidential and trauma-informed support to campus survivors through direct and group services. Do you have the experience and passion for working with students, faculty, and staff on trauma and grief? Are you hoping to expand your transferable skill set and desire to work on a diverse college campus? The Advocate will be joining a team of Advocates and Prevention Education Coordinators who serve the entire community, including students, faculty, and staff. The position is expected to work at the central campus location with some hybrid remote work arrangements possible. The CARE Advocate is a partial-year career position with a 4-week unpaid summer furlough. Positions with summer work breaks contain regularly scheduled non-work periods during which the CARE Advocate remains an employee, retains health benefits, but is not at work. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) Student Health Services (SHS) is a full-service medical facility offering clinical, educational, and psychological support to UCSC students. SHS is deeply committed to ensuring affordable, well-integrated, multidisciplinary healthcare that effectively supports the university's diverse campus communities through equitable access and culturally competent, high-quality programs and services. The Primary Care Program includes primary care and same-day care, with the support of on-site radiology, a COLA-accredited high-complexity clinical laboratory, and a campus pharmacy, offering both prescriptive pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter products. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) supports UCSC students to maintain or improve their general well-being by providing a broad range of counseling, psychiatric services, consultation, and outreach services and programs. More information can be found at: care.ucsc.edu and healthcenter.ucsc.edu JOB SUMMARY CARE (Center for Advocacy, Resources & Empowerment) is the advocacy and prevention education office at University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC). CARE supports survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence, as well as their significant others and allies. CARE also promotes a sex-positive consent culture on campus through programming, training, workshops, and other outreach to students, staff, and faculty. Under the supervision of the CARE Director, the CARE Advocate will provide crisis counseling and advocacy for campus victims/survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking by working with campus and community partners. The CARE Advocate's scope of work will include a specialized focus on alternative healing programming and resources for survivors. A core responsibility of this position is to support survivors from various campus communities through trauma-informed and healing-centered engagement. The Advocate will primarily focus on confidential direct services which include emotional support, crisis counseling, case management, and linkage to services. The Advocate will also provide group/survivor circles that support inter-sectional healing approaches, community building, and healing outside of formal processes. The CARE Advocate will assist CARE staff with developing and providing targeted outreach and training to the campus community and help publicize the advocacy services offered on campus and in the Santa Cruz community. The CARE Advocate can also support student interns and will assist with data collection and administrative tasks. APPOINTMENT INFORMATION Budgeted Salary: $6,250 - $6,667 per month for 11 months.
