Planning and Development Services Division of the Department of Land Use & Transportation is recruiting for a Senior Plans Examiner in the Building Services Section.
The Position
The Building Services section is a full-service building permit office providing permitting, plan review and inspections for all phases of construction on commercial and residential properties.
The Senior Plans Examiner coordinates, directs, manages and participates in the review of construction plans of commercial and residential properties for compliance with County, State, and Federal codes and regulations; mechanical and fire codes; and applicable laws, rules and regulations.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should have good interpersonal skills and be able to multi-task. Building The Division's objective for plan reviewers is to work collaboratively with staff, owners, designers, contractors and other interested parties to assure that minimum building standards are met for the safety of the current and future occupants and owners. Good time management and prioritization skills are a must.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
- A minimum of two (2) years of construction or inspection-related experience, or its equivalent; OR
- Completion of a one-year building inspection technology-related education program and a minimum of one (1) year of construction, design, or inspection-related experience; OR
- Possession of a two-year Associate's Degree in building inspection technology or its equivalent; OR
- Be a registered Oregon architect, registered Oregon professional engineer, or have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in architecture, civil, or structural engineering; AND
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in performing journey-level work in the review and examination of building or residential construction plans.
ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
Possession of:
- Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC); OR Must be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of appointment; AND
- Oregon Residential One and Two Family Dwelling Structural Plans Examiner Certification, OR International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Inspector certification,OR ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification; AND
- Oregon A-level Structural Plans Examiner Certification OR International Code Council (ICC) Commercial Building Plans Examiner Certification; AND
- Oregon A-level Mechanical Inspector Certification OR ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification; AND
- Oregon Fire and Life Safety Plans Examiner Certification OR ICC Fire Plans Examiner.
- A driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

Selection Process
- MQ Review: HR will screen applications for minimum qualifications within two weeks of receiving the application.

- Panel Interview(s): Our goal is to schedule panel interviews with candidates that meet the minimum qualifications and pass the SME review as soon as possible.
- Reference Checks: The hiring manager will conduct reference checks on the top candidate.
- Salary Analysis & Conditional Offer: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend a conditional offer of appointment.
- Post-Offer Checks: Human Resources will conduct any required backgrounds or driving records (if the position requires them)
- Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
