About Lifetime Learning at Georgia Institute of Technology

Following an organizational alignment in 2022, Georgia Tech established the Division of Lifetime Learning aligning the Center for 21st Century Universities (C21U), the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC), and Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE). The newly established Division of Lifetime Learning will provide education and research for new techniques, and technologies for education. The division provides accessible, affordable, achievable education for learners at any stage of life. The newly established division is part of the expansion of Georgia Tech's ecosystem for lifetime learning. Furthermore, the division is going through a formal process of faculty and university system governance to become Georgia Tech's seventh college.

Job Summary

Direct day-to-day activities in support of learning analytics and assessment of for-credit and non-credit course offerings through the Learning Systems unit within Lifetime Learning. The Director will be a thought leader in planning and managing academic assessments, related analytics, and developing learning analytics dashboards to present data for actionable decision making. Interact and support Lifetime Learning's academic programs, Georgia Tech's faculty, and Office of Academic Effectiveness. Responsible for setting employee and/or group goals, deciding on organizational structure to meet the goals, assessing employee and/or group performance and providing feedback. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: leadership, staff, academic faculty. This position typically will advise and counsel: leadership, staff, academic faculty. This position will supervise: Learning Analytics and Assessment staff.

Responsibilities

The job responsibilities for the Director of Learning Analytics and Assessment are as follows:

  • In support of Lifetime Learning's strategic priorities, further the strategy for gathering learner and learning data and assessment that ensures the consistency, adequacy, and accuracy of the data to improve learning.
  • Work across different levels of the organization, and across Georgia Tech, to provide expertise in assessing educational experiences, including the success of current learners and graduates.
  • Oversee the design, validation, implementation, analysis, interpretation and reporting of institutional data that focuses on learning outcomes assessment, curriculum review, and student retention and success among other outcomes, across both credit and non-credit learning environments.
  • Use data insights to communicate and advance lifetime learning through sharing these analytics.
  • Facilitate the increased use of timely, actionable data across the unit, using a variety of statistical models, analytical and visualization tools.
  • Monitors learning systems and evaluates tool performance to discover ways of enhancing and utilizing new technology or other approaches.
  • Collaborates with other departments, centers, divisions, and colleges across GT, particularly OIT's Enterprise Data Management team, to determine needed enterprise-wide learning analytics data management, storage, security, and data reporting for internal and external constituencies.
  • Manage reporting and communications with assessment organizations for reaffirmation, or governmental and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Develop and administer unit's annual budget plan; monitor all expenditures for personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies. Support personnel in use of technology and regarding their professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Academic Professional

  • Terminal degree
  • Significant related experience or promotion from the rank of Associate Academic Professional
  • Quality of performance and potential development must be recognized by peers.

Senior Academic Professional

  • Terminal degree
  • Evidence of superior performance in the chosen field
  • Recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local)
  • Successful and measurable related experience
  • Five (5) years or more as an Academic Professional
Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience in learning analytics and assessment. Credentials for a faculty appointment at Georgia Tech are preferred.
  • A vision and understanding for uses of learning analytics focused on online, blended, and face-to-face environments and the best uses of such data in learning and instruction.
  • Extensive pedagogical knowledge, with emphasis on teaching and learning, the analytical assessment of the systems for quality academic programs/activities and experience with supporting each next generation technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessments that show expanding the capacity of instructors to create and deliver sound instruction and associated experiences that connects with the students and stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong foundation in quantitative and qualitative research methods and ability to design and conduct research studies to inform educational practices and policies.
  • Strong understanding of educational assessment principles and experience with various assessment tools and methods to evaluate learning outcomes.
  • Expertise in managing and processing large datasets while ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with data privacy regulations.
  • Ability to create and interpret data visualizations using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in using analytical or programming tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python) for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
  • Experience with AI-driven tools to enhance learning analytics and predictive modeling.
