Senior Design Engineers - Outdoor Power Equipment

Job duties:

  • Use highly developed engineering expertise and project management abilities to contribute to the design and development of new products and support of existing products within the Power Tools department.
  • Serve as a chief technical resource and mechanical engineering leader on mid/high complexity Power Tool New Product Development projects.
  • Develop design solutions to meet consumer requirements.
  • Conduct field research to understand end user needs. Translate end user needs into concrete engineering specifications.
  • Facilitate project flow involving regular contact with manufacturing and other cross-functional team members.
  • Provide clear engineering information to Project Leaders and the Global Engineering teams facilitating trade off decisions.
  • Interact with suppliers to develop part/product specifications that meet performance requirements while falling within process capabilities.
  • Evaluate product design relative to material selection, cost, and reliability.
  • Mechanical stress analysis, material and heat treatment selection, tolerance and fit analyses, lubrication, spur and helical gear design, statics and dynamics, noise and vibration and a variety of machine element design.
  • Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within area of scope in the project with minimal guidance. Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations.
  • Independently develop, write, and analyze testing reports in internal laboratory.
  • Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation/mentorship to others.
  • May serve as front line manager to mechanical designers and mechanical design engineers.
  • Plan and track projects to work-breakdown-structure and project schedule.
  • Execute a wide variety of calculations and software aided analyses in the following areas: fluid dynamics, electromechanical system thermodynamics, mechanical stress analysis, multi-body dynamics/drop test simulations, tolerance stack analyses, gearing design, sound and vibration/response of dynamic systems, and mechanism development and analysis.

Job Requirements:

Master's or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related engineering field and 2 years of design experience or Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related engineering field and 5 years of design experience. Experience must include:

  • 3D CAD (ProE, Solidworks, or NX).
  • Finite Element Analysis.
  • Fluid dynamics, 1D flow analysis, or computational fluid dynamics.
  • Electromechanical system thermodynamics.
  • Mechanical stress analysis.
  • Multi-body dynamics/drop test simulations.
  • Tolerance stack analyses.
  • Gearing design.
  • Sound and vibration/response of dynamic systems.
  • Mechanism development and analysis.

Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
