Job Summary |
The Charles D McCrary Institute is accepting applications for an Archivist. This position will lead the creation, maintenance, and curation of a comprehensive digital repository hosting a diverse range of cybersecurity content for the McCrary Institute, while ensuring compliance with copyright laws and Auburn University policies.

CEO and Auburn alumnus Charles D. McCrary, the Institute fuses theory with practice, and policy with technology, to protect and advance U.S. interests in the areas of cyber and critical infrastructure security.
The McCrary Institute is a nonpartisan think tank located at Auburn University, and is the leading group of public/private sector cyber experts providing unique end-to-end cyber capabilities from R&D, cybersecurity education/training, policy-relevant analysis, to future technology research.
As a top-tier research university, designated a Carnegie R1 institution, over 200 of Auburn's on-campus faculty members conduct defense, cyber, and homeland security research for the Department of Defense,
NASA, and other federal agencies.

Essential Functions |
- Collaboratively create and maintain a repository with the Web Engineer, Web Designer, Auburn Library, and various external vendors and partners. Curate, populate, and organize a variety of content, including cyber security research, op-eds, news, event information, the Institutes original content, and academic articles.
- Oversees the successful operation of a dedicated cybersecurity news site and associated daily digital newsletter. Ensure timely updates and relevance of content.
- Verifies materials for authenticity, physical condition, and historical content and analyzes materials to spot defects and determine inclusion in collections.
- Supervise contractors and services to ensure effective creation and maintenance of the digital library and associated repository. Manage relationships with external vendors and partners relevant to the digital repository.
- Aids people accessing the archives to retrieve information or to carry out research. Ensures materials are available to the public through scans and copies.
- Continually identify, curate, and update the digital library with relevant and engaging cybersecurity content, including current and historical materials. Ensure compliance with copyright laws and university policies.
- Works closely with the Auburn University library to develop and integrate the cyber research and policy systems and materials with the Institute's digital library system.
- Ensures artifacts are properly cared for, including digitizing photos, maps, and other documents.
- Collaborates with the Institute's Senior Fellows, research and policy teams to ensure they have seamless access to the materials they need through the Institute's digital library. Provide support and training as needed,
- Establish and maintain partnerships with other libraries and digital vendors to secure licensed access to materials for the digital archives, ensuring a rich and comprehensive collection of resources.
- Implement and manage analytics tools to track the usage of the digital repository. Prepare regular reports on repository usage, content growth, and other key metrics to inform strategic decisions. Collaborate with the Web Engineer and Designer to enhance the user experience of the digital repository. Ensure that the repository is accessible to users with disabilities and complies with relevant accessibility standards. Develop, implement, and maintain metadata standards for the digital repository. Ensure consistent and accurate metadata across all digital assets to facilitate easy search and retrieval of information. Develop and implement long-term digital archival strategies to ensure the longevity and accessibility of digital assets.

- Bachelor's degree in Library, Information Systems, History, Library Science, History, Archival Science or a related field.
- 4 years of experience in working in archival collections or curation of historical records in a museum or public history setting.

- Ability to recognize, understand and interpret archival concepts, principles, and standards. Knowledge of archival theories and practices.
