The
College of Agriculture at Auburn University is excited to recruit candidates for their
Research Assistant position with the Scholl of Fisheries, Aquaculture & Aquatic Sciences.
Individuals selected for these positions will assist with field work (i.e., electrofishing, setting nets) on rivers and reservoirs in Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas working on current and future research projects. Additionally, the selected individuals will assist in laboratory work such as otolith preparation and fish aging.
Three-year limited term positions. Continuation will be contingent upon availability of funding.

Essential Functions |
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with fish sampling and habitat data/water quality collection efforts in the field (rivers and reservoirs)
- Prepare otoliths for processing and assist with determining estimated age
- Take fin clips, weigh fish, and remove other structures and preserve for the PI
- Enter field and laboratory data and provide summary tables
- Maintain laboratory and field equipment such as microscopes, electrofishing boats, boat motors, trailers, and trucks
- Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications |
Level I: Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Natural Resource Ecology & Management, or closely related; no experience required.
Level II: Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Natural Resource Ecology & Management, or closely related field and 2 years of experience relevant to the position.
Level III: Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Natural Resource Ecology & Management, or closely related field and 4 years of experience relevant to the position.
Substitutions Allowed for Experience: Substitution allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience. |
