Description

Phlow Corporation is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Safety Field Process Engineer to join our team at the Petersburg, VA manufacturing plant. Reporting to the Director of EHS & Security, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, the environment, and the community by identifying and mitigating risks associated with manufacturing processes. This position involves working directly in the field to oversee and enhance process safety.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor process safety management (PSM) programs in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Conduct safety reviews and risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the manufacturing processes and develop solutions to mitigate these risks.
  • Manage and conduct hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), process hazard analyses (PHA), and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR).
  • Ensure all changes to processes are controlled through the Management of Change (MOC) procedure.
  • Provide technical support to operations and engineering teams to ensure safety is integrated into all processes and designs.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Train and educate employees on safety procedures and protocols, emphasizing the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections, prepare detailed reports and communicate findings to site leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement long-term process improvement efforts.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
  • Certification in Process Safety Management (PSM) or related safety certifications (CSP, OHST, ASP) is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, industry standards, and best practices in process safety.
  • Proficiency in using process safety software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds routinely.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, turning, and climbing.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs for extended periods.
  • Work in various positions such as walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged durations.
  • Exposure to indoor factory conditions and outdoor environments with varying temperatures.
