The City of Peoria's Development and Engineering Department has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineer that will work in the Engineering Services Division on water and wastewater Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. The position will work in a fun and family-oriented culture alongside a talented group of professional engineers and project managers. Customer service and relationship building skills are highly valued assets, as the position must build positive relationships with internal client departments, engineering consultants, and highly qualified general contractors and subcontractors.

Under general direction, this position will be involved with preparation and implementation of water and wastewater Capital Improvements Program (CIP) projects from initial concept to construction completion and closeout; more specifically, this position will act as a liaison to outside agencies; administer contracts; address City management and resident concerns and inquiries; review plans and specifications; design solutions, expansion, construction or relocation projects; coordinate with various vendors such as developers, contractors, consultants, the public, internal departments and City management; develop guidelines, codes, plans, and specifications; participate in consultant selection; coordinate inspections; monitor budgets; and coordinate and perform related work as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:



  • Experience reading, comprehending, and completing technical reviews of construction plans;
  • Exposure to design and/or construction cost proposals, construction schedules, and construction cost estimates;
  • Experience with coordinating, monitoring, or managing the progress of design and/or construction projects;
  • Exposure to construction activities on a typical construction project;
  • Competency in financial record keeping and analysis (fee proposals, cost estimates, project budgets, pay applications and change orders);
  • Experience in a municipal or government setting (not essential, but preferred).

Minimum Qualifications



  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, related field, or equivalent;
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of professional engineering experience (or in a related field). Requires a working knowledge of Civil Engineering principles, specialist practices, equipment, and procedures;
  • Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements: Registered Professional Engineer required upon hire with preference to Arizona registration; Valid Arizona Driver's License upon hire.
