Position Summary

Reporting to Accion's Corporate Controller/Deputy CFO, the Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for the ongoing support of Accion's accounting and general ledger activities. The position will require frequent interaction and work with Accion's global accounting staff and with the Investments, Budget, HR, and Global Operations departments in Accion. Activities will include accounting related to grants, contracts, operating, and investing activity. Manage two direct reports.

Position Responsibilities

    Responsible for management of the timely and accurate month-end closing process in coordination with Accion's Finance Department to ensure financial statements are fairly stated according to US GAAP. Manage and continually refine the monthly close checklist to ensure intercompany transactions are properly reviewed and recorded.
  • Regularly assess, implement, and modify processes and practices to improve data quality; ensure segregation of duties and strong internal controls and efficiencies.
  • Oversee and manage revenue recognitions and the accounts receivable processes, as well as the employees supporting this function. Ensure that work is completed on a timely basis and regularly meet with A/R team.
  • Ensure that US federally funded projects adhere to US federal government regulations.
  • Analyze monthly results to identify and address irregularities prior to closing the month; prepare correcting entries as needed. Interact with the Budget Director to ensure transactions are recorded properly, propose and implement any changes to improve the process. Ensure subsidiary and program initiatives are recorded and reviewed in a timely manner and prepare related financial reporting as needed.
  • Provide support and guidance on a day-to-day basis to the Accion accounting team for project and general ledger coding, revenue recognition, capitalization of assets and any other accounting questions as they arise.
  • Prepare payroll liability reconciliations and review Balance Sheet reconciliations including prepaids, fixed assets, and accruals.
  • Work closely with the Finance Systems Senior Manager to improve accounting process and reporting; support NetSuite implementation and other system initiatives as needed.
  • Manage the annual independent financial audit by providing many details, particularly leading the General Ledger, Intercompany, and PBC List deliverables. Support donor and USG audits as needed.
  • Provides mentoring and evaluation to entry level Associates/Senior Associates.
  • Liaise with Accion departments to solve finance or administrative issues.
  • Ensure that ongoing responsibilities are documented, and colleagues are cross trained to have backup support in place. Similarly, as needed, provide backup support for colleagues after receiving cross training.
  • Backup support for other functions including payroll and Billing/AR.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's and/or CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of related experience in accounting is required, international accounting experience a plus.
  • Accounting experience with non-profits is required (2-3 years); for-profit accounting experience desired.
  • Proven knowledge of ASC 606 and US GAAP accounting principles (including practices, standards, laws, and regulations) required.
  • Experience with US federal government grants and contracts as it relates to Accounting a plus.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and interfaces between systems. Previous use of NetSuite systems, desired.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and related tools for accounting and reporting.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent at multi-tasking with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and mentor members of the team without necessarily a direct reporting line.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $98K - $125K
  • The above salary range serves as a general guideline. Accion considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, training, skills, location, current market conditions as well as internal pay alignment.
  • Accion provides a total compensation package, including base salary, discretionary merit-based bonus, and a variety of benefits including health insurance (90% employer funded), life and disability insurance, retirement plans (up to 7.5% employer match), paid holidays and paid time-off for vacation plus personal days as well as sick days.
