Located in downtown Boston's Chinatown neighborhood, Tufts Medical Center is the primary teaching hospital for Tufts Medical School and functions as both a designated level one trauma center and comprehensive stroke center. Tufts is fortunate to have both neuro-critical care and neuro-intermediate care units staffed with highly trained clinicians, nurses and therapists to best serve our unique patient population suffering from neurologic conditions.We are seeking a highly motivated physician assistant who is interested in working in a fast-paced, team environment focused on delivering exceptional, compassionate care. Responsibilities: The physician assistants work in collaboration with the resident team to provide comprehensive care to inpatients at Tufts Medical Center experiencing a wide variety of conditions involving the brain and spine. In addition to the responsibility of the inpatient service, which involves intensive care, intermediate care and floor level patients, the team manages emergency room and off-service consultations, including traumas. To succeed in the role, the physician assistant needs excellent critical thinking skills and efficiency. The PA must demonstrate initiative to complete daily tasks and address the continual needs of the patients and their families. Proficiency in general medicine is required. The neurosurgery service functions as the primary team for patients, rather than a consulting service, requiring comfort with management of active chronic medical illnesses and postoperative conditions, such as arrhythmias and ventilator management. Ability to independently evaluate patients, order and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies and initiate clinical intervention based on the results of those studies is expected. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial for effective communication both within the interdisciplinary care team and for coordination of care withconsulting services. The role involves procedural skills such as, but not limited to, drain removal, suturing and arterial line placement. There are no operative procedures associated with this position. Rotating schedule with3 13-hour shifts per week, which includes on average 1 Monday overnight call shift and 1-2 Saturday call shifts (day or overnight) per month. All call shifts are in-house call.No major holiday coverage requirements. Qualifications
