Role Summary

Reporting to the Durability Sr. Manager, you will inspire and directly lead a talented group of engineers with responsibility for vehicle and component development as it relates to durability and longevity targets. You will maintain a high level of cross-functional interaction to ensure delivery of longer term program agnostic durability developments, working alongside other attributes, function groups and development teams with the aim of developing robust technical capabilities to support the durability roadmap.


Responsibilities

  • Lead a high performing team of durability development engineers, to analyze (CAE) various components and systems to improve design for durability
  • Own complex durability methods development tasks and roadmapping
  • Work with cross functional teams to deliver robust durability solutions across all parts of the vehicle
  • Provide technical oversight where needed
  • Generation of detailed component and subsystem test procedures aligned to a virtual matched pair to aid correlation
  • Creation, management and approval of standards related to durability analysis
  • Lead 'offline' development studies with the aim to implement these robustly into the program cycle plan upon readiness

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years experience in automotive product development
    • Well-rounded skillset and industry experience in FEA static and dynamic simulations for Body, Closures, Battery and Chassis systems on a component and vehicle level
  • Experience in balancing attribute performance when considering technical solutions
  • Experience in coaching less experienced team members
  • Thorough understanding of component, system and vehicle level durability analysis
  • Thorough understanding of component, system and vehicle level durability test protocol
  • Experience of loads generation/validation processes
  • Proven problem solver
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in line with business/program objectives
  • Knowledge of design verification process is essential
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to all levels of the business
  • Advanced knowledge of CAE Analysis toolsets (ABAQUS, Nastran, Optistruct, nCode)
  • Degree Qualified in relevant engineering, or product design
  • Proficiency with Atlassian tools (JAMA, JIRA) an asset
  • Minimum age of 21
  • No driving related suspensions or revocation of Driver License (within a 3-5 year period)
  • No drug or alcohol related driving incidents in the last 3 years
  • No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years
  • Must have a valid driver's license in the state of residence that you will be driving/operating a vehicle
  • Will be subject to continuous Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring

Pay Disclosure

Salary range for California Based Applicants: $154,000-$192,500 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
