Overview

Provide psychosocial support at end of life including religious, spiritual, and grief care services to patients, families, and staff by serving as an interdisciplinary partner in care, education, and research at the bedside, at the organizational level, and in the community.

Schedule: FT, Benefits Eligible, M-F 8:30am-5:00pm, occasional weekends and evenings

Location: Central Campus (700 Childrens Dr.)

Responsibilities

    Supports the interdisciplinary team with resources to provide grief care during admission to patients and families experiencing significant losses that contribute to or impact wellness.
  • Assists the interdisciplinary team with resources to assess and implement appropriate care plans for the bereaved.
  • Assists interdisciplinary team with identification of high-risk bereavement situations and provides intervention where needed.
  • Coordinates a continuum of care to families of deceased patients through written resources, referrals, direct interaction, and supportive programming.
  • Coordinates support for staff impacted by grief and loss through a variety of modalities.
  • Provides grief and loss education to health care team members and community.
  • Participates on and supports related committees, task forces, and staff led projects.
  • Supports leadership in regulatory compliance efforts and complies with safety standards, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, and departmental policies and procedures.


Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Bachelors degree, required.
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Divinity/Theology, Child Life, Nursing or related discipline, preferred.
  • Licensed Social Worker, Board Certified Chaplain, Certified Child Life Specialist, Registered Nurse, or equivalent, preferred.

Certifications:

  • Certification through a recognized bereavement or thanatology organization, preferred.
  • Must obtain within three years of hire and maintain throughout employment.
  • Board certified (or equivalent) or board certified eligible (or equivalent) in appropriate certifying body for professional discipline, if applicable.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to situations with complex emotional and relational dynamics.

Experience

  • Three years of experience in the field of bereavement in a hospital, hospice, or related setting, required.
  • Experience with pediatric and perinatal death, preferred.
  • Experience in grief support, preferred.
  • Experience with palliative care, preferred.
