Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.

This is the second level within the Land Services Survey & Mapping job family. This position is responsible for managing multiple survey vendor contracts to provide quality land surveying services in a safe and cost effective manner. This individual is the subject matter expert for all items related to the technical details of survey law and standards of practice for their region. Detail of activities associated with land surveying projects include: development of the technical details of project scopes, calculate an in-house estimate for each project, generate request for quotes for cost and timeframes, initiate the data entry into the work management tool, monitor contractor performance and projects to assure quality/schedules/budgets are met, review invoices for accuracy and process for payment, perform quality checks on project deliverables, deliver the finished products to the customer or requester, and close out projects in the work management tool. This individual will assist in mentoring and development of in-house resources as well as utilize the resources of regionally located professional service providers in order to meet the demands of the customers. This individual will also be required to be a problem solver for technical issues arising from customers and employees as well as demonstrate a vision for applying new technology in order to increase quality and manage project cost. They will tactically support and follow company goals, policies, and procedures as well as represent the company in a positive and professional manner with all internal and external contacts.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with a group of technical employees and/or contractor staff responsible for surveys including, but not limited to, transmissions lines, distribution lines, gas lines, seismic dam deformation studies, construction staking, land acquisitions and disposals of enterprise assets for a designated region.

  • Monitors, coordinates, inspects and reviews survey work performed by survey vendors for compliance with Duke Energy technical specifications, work schedules, budgets and recommends approval of deliverables. Provides technical input for project development that utilizes the latest technology and cost control but maintains safety and quality. Serves as the subject matter expert on matters of survey law and standards of practice for their service territory. Provides professional oversight of survey vendors as well as provides input for project scope planning as related to matters of survey law.

  • Utilize proficiency to expertise in survey law, along with engineering, project management, and critical thinking knowledge for solutions to company acquisition and disposition projects.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external resources.

  • Keep current with best practices, regulations and laws related to land survey functions.

Basic/Required Qualifications (Senior Land Surveying Coordinator)
  • Associates degree in Surveying and Topography or related degree and 5+ years related work experience OR

  • High School/GED degree and 7+ years related work experience

Basic/Required Qualifications (Land Surveying Coordinator)
  • Associates degree in Surveying and Topography or related degree and 2+ years related work experience OR

  • High School/GED degree and 4+ years related work experience

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree and 7+ years related work experience

  • Registered Land Surveyor

  • Ability to coordinate and direct all phases of a contract & strong project management skills

  • Excellent organization and documentation skills

  • Proven ability to read construction plans

  • Able to work independently to check deliverables; performs complex computations using standard surveying software

  • Critical thinking and decision making skills to avoid and overcome obstacles on difficult assignments

Working Conditions
  • Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
