POSITION: Administrative Assistant - Router
12 month - Class 5 - 8 hours per day
HOURS: 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. with hour unpaid lunch
LOCATION: Transportation
STARTING PAY: $19.78 per hour (Step 1)
ANTICIPATED START DATE: As soon as possible
AVAILABLE FOR APPLICATION: Open until filled

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will assist in ensuring that all eligible students are assigned and routed to the appropriate bus stop and delivered to/from school in a timely manner; assist in routing and scheduling functions using automated route mapping software.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
General Office Functions

1. Assist students, staff, and parents, including: greet people entering the office; assist with directions, information, provide positive and friendly customer service in person and over the telephone. Remain cheerful, calm and professional in all situations
2. Provide clerical support, which may include:
a. Correspondence/flyer distribution/spreadsheets using Word and Excel
b. Data entry
c. Copying
d. Infinite Campus support
e. Filing
3. Maintain confidentiality and data privacy for employees and students.
4. Treat students and staff with fairness and equity. Understands and supports students and staff with varying cultural, ethnic, sexual orientation, religious, and/or language backgrounds.
5. Other duties as assigned.

Department Specific Job Functions
1. Assists with: coordinating and implementing regular/special education school bus routing; creating routing solutions for the safe and efficient transport of students; correcting and updating time schedules and maps.
2. Ensures that drivers are provided with route copies, maps and any other items necessary for completing their assignments. Reviews changes to routes with drivers/assistants.
3. Maintains all emergency card information for Special Education Students to ensure all proper medical and emergency information is obtained.
4. Provides information and assistance to staff, schools and the public on routing situations.
5. Stays in communication with bus drivers by means of radio equipment and contacts drivers to receive or provide routing/student information.
6. Enters routing and student data into computerized transportation routing system; monitors, updates and ensures accuracy of system data.
7. Provides information and assistance to staff, schools and the public on routing issues, assists with the evaluation and resolution of complaints and issues.
8. Functions as liaison and information link between the department and school bus contractors.
9. Functions as liaison between transportation and school staff for school bus behavior incidents.
10. Collaborates with dispatcher when field trips include students with special needs.
11. Coordinates special transportation service needs with the special education building contact staff as needed.
12. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:

1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Skills/experience in Windows based computer software.
3. Experience in transportation or related field using routing software (preferably TransFinder).
4. Call center or multi-line phone system experience.
5. Outstanding social, interpersonal, telephone, customer service and teaming skills.
6. Proven organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Ability to perform routine computer functions including the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Infinite Campus.
9. Must be eligible to obtain and hold a CDL with school bus endorsement within 3 months of hire.
10. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
11. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
12. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.

Desired:
1. College Degree or a combination of education and relevant experience.

TESTING:
Current Office professional Employees must pass the qualifying tests prior to bidding. Successful external candidates or applicants from other bargaining groups must have a qualifying score in each of the following testing areas to be considered for the position: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Basic Office Skills and Following Written Instructions.
