Job Summary

Seeking an individual with an interest in animals, farming, agriculture, nature, educating others, or all of the above. This person will be able to effectively educate students and adults who visit Oak Ridge Farm. All employees will receive on the job training.

Position Summary

  • Present educational programs and activities for scheduled groups on a seasonal basis.
  • Provide quality instruction and create an atmosphere of learning through positive feedback and mutual understanding.
  • Instruct and supervise elementary-age children in an outdoor setting through hands-on activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring that programs are taught according to the curriculum developed by Outdoor Education Supervisor.
  • Dedicate time to organize educational materials before and after programming.
  • Attend seasonal staff meetings for the purpose of program evaluation, new program implementation, current program revisions and the assignment of special projects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of MPS Recreation rules, policies and procedures related to management and resource protection.
Supervision Required

Reports to the Recreation Supervisors of Oak Ridge Farm.

Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs for this position
  • Access to reliable transportation

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to hike on trails and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work well with limited supervision and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and respond to immediate needs of students, emergency situations and program needs.
  • Desire to work with students of all ages, with and without disabilities.
  • Ability to complete necessary paperwork.
  • Leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle/ be around a variety of animals.
  • Ability to memorize and recall facts and information
Working Environment

This work environment includes physical activity such as walking in all weather conditions.
