Position Summary:
The Executive Director of Risk is responsible for managing all areas of PCOM's Risk Management and Insurance program. This includes ensuring accurate claims handling, overseeing appropriate insurance programs, ensuring safety compliance, and leading risk prevention activities. This position reports directly to the Chief Legal Affairs Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all components of PCOM's insurance program across the Pennsylvania and Georgia campuses, with a focus on Professional and General Liability. Handle the entire insurance placement process, including application, budgeting, placements, and implementation. Manage all aspects of the workers' compensation program, including collaboration with the College's third-party administrator, claim administration, management, education, and the filing of required state reports. Maintain all records related to the PCOM insurance program. Collaborate with various PCOM departments to ensure proper and accurate insurance placements. Investigate and manage claims; coordinate and monitor the progress of all litigation. Work closely with third-party claims administrators, insurance brokers, and defense counsel in handling all insurance and claims/litigation matters. Negotiate the settlement of claims and cases within administrative authority. Supervise third-party claims administrators to ensure satisfactory levels of service and appropriate claim handling. Provide prompt responses to requests for insurance and claim history information from insurers, hospitals, health systems, etc., for current and former physicians, residents, interns, and students. Monitor, evaluate, and respond to incident information received via incident reports, telephone communications, and referrals, taking appropriate action as necessary. Attend the annual AOIC captive board meeting and present claim information. Participate in risk management awareness and educational activities, including speaking at employee, intern, and resident orientations, and various department meetings. Develop and implement risk control-related policies. Collaborate closely with the Director of Security, Chief Environmental and Safety Officer, and Director of Plant Operations on matters involving risks associated with facilities, grounds, fire safety, and security. Accept legal documents served on PCOM and/or its employees, notify appropriate administrators, brokers, and claims representatives of the receipt of claims/lawsuits. Coordinate, facilitate, and present information at quarterly Risk Management Committee meetings, and manage the preparation of agendas and minutes. Consult with relevant PCOM staff, including physicians, residents, students, departmental directors, ancillary personnel, Human Resources, and Security staff, to gather necessary information for risk management investigations and prevention processes. Serve as an advisor to all members of the PCOM community on risk management-related activities. Maintain current knowledge of risk management issues through journal readings, seminar attendance, and society participation. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Position Requirements:
Experience:
- At least 7 years of experience in risk management, insurance, claims handling, or similar fields, with strong healthcare and higher education experience.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) required.
Salary: $122,050 - $140,000 The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
