Production Planning Manager Oversees the production aspects of production planning and scheduling, to meet production targets and customer demand.
The S&OP Process Leader is responsible for the oversight and control of all planning and scheduling activities. The objective of the position is to manage and facilitate the scheduling operations to achieve customer on-time delivery and production output objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner. - Manages, coaches and directs the master planning and production scheduling functions. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Manages Training Program (Plan, Skills Matrix, Cross-training, Employee Development) to enable each employee to perform tasks to the best of their ability.
- Incumbent must also be able to provide data analysis to manage the business performance effectively.
- Incumbent has responsibility of monitoring manufacturing schedule performance against plan and initiating revisions as necessary.
- Incumbent will actively participate in resolving short-term and long-term planning and scheduling problems.
- Participates in and contributes to the Site Management Team to develop strategies, resource requirements and continuous improvement plans to attain performance objectives in service, operating costs, asset management, safety and human resource management.
- Manages, develops and maintains continuous improvement projects by applying CI methodologies.
- Provides planning support, including production scheduling support on all material flow issues, budgeting, performance monitoring, analysis, reporting, expediting, personnel planning, purchasing, and other administrative duties as needed to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
Interfaces with Program Management on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments.
- Manages, establishes and coordinates the production schedules in a factory environment and ensures the flow of materials, parts and assemblies between or within departments.
- Collaborates with Supply Chain to ensure adequate inventory of materials and products in accord with inventory cycles and organizational philosophy.
- Conducts inventory analysis to solve inventory problems and develops and implements inventory control procedures.
- Integrates with multiple functions to drive and develop monthly forecast. Uses Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process fundamentals.
- Collaborates with Program Management to synchronize Customer demand with Shop capacity.
- Uses metrics, analytical tools and methods to identify actions and deploy processes and systems to effectively and efficiently schedule and utilize shop capacity.
- Leads and supports Continuous Improvement methods to analyze trends and improve responsible processes that impact Customer On-Time Delivery performance.
- Develops standard work and operating procedures for the Planner Schedulers and Production Control
- Coordinators to deploy systems and processes to plan and schedule shop and balance demand with capacity.
- Advises management of the status of work in progress, potential project problems and recommended solutions.
- Coordinates with production and schedulers to ensure product throughput to support customer delivery requirements.
- Interfaces with all functional area managers to understand unusual or anomalous factors that may affect manufacturing schedules or impact planned capacity.
- Helps develop work around plans and build ahead or recovery plans. These factors may include but are not limited to: unplanned machinery failures, facility renovation, site plan change, staffing issues etc.
- Interfaces with the Materials Manager to understand and accommodate supplier performance and schedules.
- Interfaces with operating and support groups (Supply Chain, Contracts, Finance, Quality) to collect data for preparation of schedules and reports, as well as providing status reports to internal and external contacts.
- Communicates with personnel in Manufacturing Engineering and/or Integrated Product Teams, as required, to address resolution of missing elements or planning changes.
- Develops periodic production schedules for manufacturing to ensure timely processing of work orders to meet customer demands.
- Creates exception reports and shortage lists to highlight missing required materials, details, tooling, or engineering.
- Maintains periodic metrics to track pre-production exceptions and demonstrate the performance of the pre-production process.
- Reviews and confirms new customer orders acknowledging that requested dates can be met.Informs management of customer requirements that cannot be met or that are inside of specified re-order lead-time.
- Develops efficient systems and methods to identify and plan tasks.
- Maintains MRP data such as Calendars, Resources, and Work Centers etc.
Required Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of electronics manufacturing experience preferred.
- Management experience in production scheduling, capacity planning and inventory control functions is required.
- Must have exceptional interpersonal skills to deal with people on a continuous basis under production schedule pressures.
