PER DIEM RESPIRATORY THERAPIST

The Respiratory Therapist will provide Respiratory support to all patients with abnormalities of cardiopulmonary function.Administration and monitoring of all diagnostic and therapeutic modalities within the service's scope ofpractice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Initiate, monitor, and adjust parameters on all patients receiving HFNC, NIPPV, Invasivemechanical ventilation or other modalities (ex:Vest therapy, Cough Assist, Mobilization, NitricOxide, etc.) as per physician order.
• Obtain arterial blood gases on patients as per MDorder.
• Initiate and administer aerosolized medicationtherapy as per M.D order.
• Initiate, regulate and monitor the use of oxygen therapy as per M.D order and completion ofappropriate departmental and medical centerrecords.
• Respond to all cardiopulmonary arrests and assistas needed, rapid response team calls, assist asneeded, including performing endotrachealintubation.
• Completes all competency paperwork as perdepartment policy.
• Adheres to all infection control and safety policiesrelating to respiratory care.
• Inventories and stocks all respiratory careequipment as specified for each assigned area andmaintains these areas in a neat and orderlymanner.
• Administers care within the scope of theinstitution's patient care code of ethics.
• Participates in the department's qualityimprovement plan.
• Performs education with all new procedures orequipment to the patient or family member.
• Instructs and oversees Respiratory TherapyStudents on respiratory care policies andprocedures, and assists in the evaluation of thestudents' performance.
• Participates in the interdisciplinary rounds onpatient care units.
• Provides respiratory care as per department'sservice agreements.
• Actively participates in the patient care planprocess and makes appropriate recommendationsto the physician and nursing staff for patientsrequiring respiratory care.
• Other duties assigned as related to the practice ofRespiratory Care.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduate of an AMA Respiratory Program or Certificate ofcompletion from an AMA accredited program
• Current NYS Respiratory Therapist License.
• CRT, RRT or Registry Eligible by the National Board forRespiratory Care. (CRT may perform procedures under the supervision of an RRT).
• Current BLS by the American Heart Association or Red Cross.

PREFERRED:

• 1-2 years of experience in Respiratory Therapy preferred
• Pediatric/ Neonatal experience preferred
