We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Lab Technician with our Calcium Chloride plant located in Ludington, Michigan.

Primary Function

Support plant operations, site environmental compliance and product quality management by performing routine and non-routine analyses, calibration and maintenance of analytical systems.

Essential Functions

Functions that must be performed in order to fulfill Primary Function stated above include:

* Perform complex calibration and maintenance of analytical systems.

* Perform routine, non-routine and complex routine (food grade) analyses.

* Wet Lab Chemistry Knowledge: moisture, pH, Specific Gravity, Total Solids and other basic lab equipment and procedures

* Be thoroughly familiar with and able to operate instrumentation such as analytical balances, titrators, atomic absorption spectrometers, colorimeters, ICP, ion chromatograph and ion selective electrodes

* Evaluate validity of data, apply basic statistics, compare to specified limits and take appropriate action.

* Adapt laboratory IT and data-handling systems to the needs of the unit and perform first-line troubleshooting.

* Document, communicate and archive results.

* Help troubleshoot plant and customer problems.

* Implement new/improved analytical systems.

* Train peers in the use of analytical systems and Quality System procedures.

* Perform routine environmental compliance inspections.

* Learn, follow, and occasionally create and update applicable procedures to ensure that all jobs are completed in a safe, efficient, accurate, and environmentally responsible manner.

* Actively support plant and corporate HESS safety programs, objectives, and expectations.

* Follow the Ludington Guiding Principles.

* Responsible for knowledge and use of all area and job specific safety equipment.

* Actively support and participate on teams and programs to continuously improve plant operations.

* Must be able to work harmoniously with others in a self-directed workforce environment. Teamwork is an essential competency.

* Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization

* Supports the Food Safety Program and Quality Program. Adheres to FDA requirements

Qualifications

Education/Certification Requirements

Pre-employment Requirement

* 2-yr Associates Degree in Chemistry, including Quantitative Analysis and Instrumental Analysis coursework OR

* Equivalent analytical lab experience in an industrial lab environment

Post-employment Requirement

* Complete A-Lab training and certification process

*Must successfully meet Pre-employment requirements within 30 days of being awarded position.
